New Evidence for the Ancient Tsunami that Destroyed Doggerland | Ancient Architects

As you may know, this ancient tsunami has been well known for quite some time and is caused by something named the Storegga Slide. Basically, an area of seabed the size of Scotland, around 30,000 square miles, suddenly shifted under the Norwegian Sea.

This enormous landslide created three successive, enormous waves that devastated the ancient land bridge that connected Britain and Europe, a huge ancient landmass known as Doggerland. This area is now submerged beneath the North Sea with the highest part today known as Dogger Bank.

We know that a huge array of animals as well as human lived on this now lost landmass because fishing trawlers have brought up bones and tools, such as ancient harpoons.

The waves that struck Doggerland didn’t sink the landmass, that was a gradual process that happened over many thousands of years as the ice sheets melted and the land flexed accordingly, which with regards to Doggerland, meant it sank beneath the waves.

But the tsunami would have certainly devastated any human settlements, as well as much of the biodiversity.

Evidence of the huge waves have been found in Scandinavia, the Faroe Islands, northeastern Britain and Greenland, but no direct evidence for the event had been found from the southern end of the North Sea, until now.

In this video I discuss the new evidence discovered off the coast of Lincolnshire in the UK, that shows the ancient tsunami that was triggered by the Storegga Slide did reach the southern North Sea. Watch the video to learn more!

Doggerlandian politicians: Rest assure Doggerland is not sinking.

The sea level when that tsunami occurred was lower, and there's evidence well above current sea levels.

I love listening to these pods, cool accent, northern English with a touch of aspergers 😊

Scary that events like this can happen again at a moments notice and 99% are oblivious to it. I am convinced we will return to the Stone Age before we ever reach space master status

Great video, Matthew! Short, to the point, and you explained it more than once without repeating yourself! So even I could understand it! Love the maps! Keep it up!

At least they didn't have a nuclear plant on the shoreline.

You should look into some of Randall Carlson's work on Atlantis, he theorises that the Azores Islands which are located in the mid-Atlantic were once at a much higher above sea level and that there was much more land located on what is now the Azores Plateau. The sinking of the large lands (Atlantis) would have been caused by the sudden shift in weight from the North American ice caps into the Atlantic oceans, this would have a see-saw effect were the land of North America rises and the land adjacent to it and including the mid-Atlantic ridge zone would have "sunk" or "depressed", the science of this is called rheology and isostasy, there is a lot of evidence for this, especially near the Azores, they've found cobbles as well as dead shallow marine life two miles deep in the surrounding areas of the Azores and the carbon dating even goes back to the end of the Last Ice Age.

I love how things are getting so forensic, and serious study is being put into these events with so much accurately deduced. Its this level of study that gives things credence. Conan Doyle would be proud!

Isn't there also evidence of a Channelled Scablands type event in the English Channel, past and around The Isle of Wight, as evidenced by bathymetry. It may have been another event at another time entirely but I remember the video, possibly by someone from the University of Plymouth- though I could be wrong

Found your channel today, and now I'm on a neolithic marathon. I love ancient history, helps me satisfy my wonder, of when humans became human.

- may I ask where you got that beautiful map?

Imagine what could be found with a well-funded archaeological diving expedition! You could have an underwater habitat so divers wouldn't need to return to the surface. They could venture forth collecting artifacts, bring them back to the habitat, analyze them there for clues on where to dig next.

Fascinating I have been studying the evidence behind it for some time now Doggerland must have been similar to many of our inland areas near the sea and freshwater inlets .. .

Great video. Direct, not too long but a lot of interesting information. Some channels try to pad their videos and end up waffling on and repeating themselves.... Cheers.
