In India, in Tamil language, in conversations to ask ...What is name of your CITY or VILLAGE ?... Ur (ஊர்) is used to denote the place. In Ur the ...u... is pronounced with a long vowel sound (uuur) for thousands of centuries Tamil. For example Thanjavur (see the place ending with ...ur... sound) has a Hindu temple more than 1000 years old. More than 300 place names end with UR.
