There are many mysterious ancient wonders of the world, from the Giza pyramids to Gobekli Tepe, Sacsayhuman and so on, but whether you believe the archaeological and historical interpretations or an alternative idea, there is always some evidence to draw upon. The same can’t really be said for the subject of this video.

The Guyaju Caves is a cave complex found on the slopes of the Tianhuang Mountain in the Yanging District of China and comprises a system of 117 caves, 350 chambers, covering an area of around 24.7 acres or 100,000 square metres.

Located around 50 miles or 80 kilometres northwest of Beijing, this site is carved out of solid granite and was only discovered in 1984. They are a true mystery of the ancient world because experts have found no dateable archaeological evidence at the site and it has never been mentioned in any historical literature.

Watch this video to learn more about this enigmatic site and to see inside these granite-cut cave-dwellings.

Between China and India, there are just so many incredible sites like this one, that no one has hardly heard about. Good stuff.

Imagine how many interesting sites in China we’re unaware of

Fascinating! I'm sure they will find some graves or remains of the people who built it. Just 80 km from Beijing and discovered so recently indicates that the terrain surrounding it isn't so easy to explore.

Puts me in mind of Bandolier National Monument in New Mexico in the US

I get the sense they built up off the ground into rock to protect themselves from something (and not just rain). Without even a written record referencing it, it must be pretty old. Who knows what they might have wanted to protect themselves from.

What would have been the best metal or rock available for the business end of the carving tools to make these caves?

Only, granite is HARD!

Very cool. I've never heard of this. Seems like something monks would build.

Great stuff Matt. There seems to be a lack of any symbology on the site whch is unusual - if they had the ability to carve the dwellings sureley there would have been some adornment ? Truly a mystery wrapped up in an enigma.

Granite usually has an iron component. Why not core sample an interior room back wall and use the iron oxide depth to gauge the age?

I actually heard of this site via Ancient Origins. As to who created it and why…I honestly have no idea. Without any artifacts to date the construction of the cave I have no clue who sculpted the caverns and why. Wish I had better insight but my knowledge of Prehistoric China is pretty limited.

so they could have used explosives ? that's a lot of work either way.

We keep finding improbable underground developments, and mainstream archeology keeps insisting there is "nothing to see here, move along now, "
I wish there was more institutional interest in these things because i do believe there are lost technologies. Not aliens, just human beings, being clever little buggers in ways we no longer understand. Always a pleasure to watch your efforts and i truly appreciate your work. Thanks mate
