The BYD Atto 3 Is Really Quirky...🤭

The BYD Atto 3 looks pretty ordinary from the outside, but inside it’s rather quirky. The 15.6” infotainment system is rotatable, there’ an airplane-like thrust lever in place of the gear selector, guitar-like strings on the door panels and hairdryer-shaped speakers. It certainly is different!
Nonetheless, its front-mounted motor dispatches 150 kW of power, allowing the vehicle to accelerate to 62mph from a standstill in just 7.3s, and it has a quoted range of 261 miles. Prices are said to start from around £36.5k. What do you make of the Atto 3?

I have driving annAtto 3 in Australia since October 2022. You quickly don’t notice the quirky interior but you do notice the fantastic feature list, smooth drive, 420+ kms of real world range and the 30% price savings over the cheapest Tesla alternative- I am a very happy driver.

My sister and I rented one of these recently, we drove about 700 km's one way in a day. Total downtime for charging was no more than an hour. Couple of toilet stops then a lunch stop and it was enough to keep her humming.

Internals took a bit to get used to.
As people have said the trunk is small, but the backseats are massive, once they have been pushed down the available space is substantial enough that I could take a full bands amount of gear in it ( have a lot of experience fitting band gear into cars haha ).

Best thing about them is that those "Guitar strings" are tuned to E, G, and A - the start of smoke on the water. It's hilarious.

Just ordered mine, the test drive blew my mind. I’m a wheelchair user and it’s always been hard to find an affordable vehicle with big enough boot space on my pension. Being fully voice controlled was the clincher 🎉

Those door guitar strings are actually tuned to E, A and G.

By most accounts an excellent car I believe. I like eccentricity a lot but I don’t think I could live with that interior, looks a bit tacky - the discount electrical store coloured plastics the culprit. I think I’d have to cover up the ‘Build your dreams’ script on the back too, though that would easily be solved and judging by opinions I reckon there’ll be a neat aftermarket, third party solution. I’m not alone in my thought on that bit it seems.
I just think I’d get into the car one day down the line, look at the interior and think ‘What the heck have I done.’ I’d have to keep reminding myself how good the rest of it is…..but for how long?

I test drove a BYD last week and I thought it was great to drive this car. I found the trunk to be small, but still enough for me, and I'm not sure about the design inside because I'm afraid I'll find it boring. I prefer a more stylish and lighter design. there is still a convenient storage space in the car. Missed that there was no heat in the steering wheel.

Haven't seen one in the flesh, but from the vids the dashboard looks like a wooden log with those grooves and rounded look. And the vents look like as was mentioned in this vid, a hairdryer. - such a shame. Would have preferred a more contemporary, sleek look for the interior.

BYD can only charge on Single Phase mod doesnt allow for 3phase super charging
