Cinematic Lighting Techniques

Lighting schemes, filmmaking tricks, and 30 pages of concentrated information with examples.

In this scene, we aim to create cinematic lighting setups using the GODOX VL300 and ARRI 2500 HMI light sources. The video showcases several cinematic lighting techniques, including key light, backlight, bounce light, and background light. By combining these techniques, we achieve a cinematic style for the video. These lighting techniques are suitable for filmmakers of all skill levels.

I would like to acknowledge Godox company for providing me with their powerful new light source, the VL300. In this video, I demonstrate the usage of this highly potent light alongside other expensive light sources.

The only video in which the titel "cinematic" is actually true. I highly adore your work and look forward to learn from this channel!

Hello, my name is Dario Gardi, I am an Italian DOP, I saw this video by chance and I was moved, you are really very good and the poetry you have been able to give with light is truly exceptional.

People need to watch this and learn that there are so many more elements to the term 'Cinematic', you explain these elements brilliantly!

This kind of contain is gold! everybody talk about cameras and lenses but just a few show and talk about how important is lighting. Thanks a lot! (ps sorry for my English) many regards from Colombia!

Usually, people with this much talent and good use of equipment aren't shooting tests and tutorials on cameras like the BMPCC4K, and it helps perpetuate this idea that you need an Arri or a RED to get a convincing "cinematic" look. Realistically though, anything with excellent dynamic range and color is going to be "good enough" for image quality, you just have to make sure the camera meets the practical shooting demands of the project. Thank you for showcasing how much is possible with very little, and providing this excellent breakdown of techniques!

We would like to see an outdoor shot entirely, also your perception of cinematics is mind-blowing. Keep up the good work

How can you be so young and so talented. I am amazed. How do you come up with the ideas on how to light a scene? How do know how to do the magic you do? Wow.

Since I've discovered your channel, I've learnt so much more in these two months compared to the four years I spent with a production company I use to work for.
Thank you so much Andbery!

Excellent work. It's beautiful, it's clean. The colorimetry in post production is just perfect. I often say that a beautiful cinema image is a good job of light, not too sharp but rather organic lenses, like vintage lenses, and a balanced image in post production. Many people make the mistake of ignoring these values. They accentuate the contrast a lot and give blue tones and think they get a nice picture. Here, we are almost on a typical Arri image.

Nice one, thanks, I bought the Zeiss 25mm Distagon a couple of years ago for 200.00 US and you just gave me some motivation to use it...Been sitting in a Pelican case for 3 years and never got around to using it...
