Foraging 100% of My Food - Day 19 Update

For one month I am foraging 100% of my food. That means no grocery stores, no restaurants and not even a garden! Every. Single. Bite.

It’s the dream of millions. To “live off the land” and never have to take a trip to the grocery store. And through the pandemic more and more Americans have experienced the instability of our food system and desire to break free.
But is it possible to break free? I am here to show that it is.

It's insane that food is EVERYWHERE, but we have been conditioned not to see it. This is inspiring!

Would love to see you identify plants and talk about the edible parts in more detail.

Hi Rob, I felt so joyful when I saw you drinking water. Here in France, lots of people eating raw food, as me, also drink seawater to get tons of minerals. You can go up to 300ml per day. The blood and the seawater have similar balance of minerals, except it's 3 times more concentrated in seawater. So to drink seawater it's recommended to add 3 times same amount of classic water. You can also use seawater for cooking, in juice, vegetable juice, with lemon juice it's also delicious. Maybe you knew all of those already. Thanks infinitely for the joy you spread 🙏❤️

I would love to know how you process your forage! For oils, how and what you choose to can, and for the plants that have toxins in them, whether you heat treat them, dry, ferment, etc. to neutralize it. Very looking forward to hearing more of your experience in this journey! I am not there yet, but am continuing to strive to ultimately, someday, reach the place you currently are. 😊

Wow....Rob I have so much respect and admiration for you and your candidness and consistent messages about living in harmony with mother earth and all of creation. Having a symbiotic relationship with all species. I had no idea that all these spices grew in North America. That's wonderful. I love the education. Thanks for sharing🙏

Hi Rob, thank you for your channel. I love your videos and the bright down-to-earth vibes. I am so curious about foraging. I really hope to dip my toe into it sometime. It used to be an exciting idea in my head to go into the woods and discover new ingredients, just because I am so delighted by how our ancestors did that and created wonderful food that is our way of life now. Would be glad to see videos of your foraging trips, it'd help to ease us into the unfamiliarity and fear of foraging the wrong food.

Dear Rob, I really like this foraging update! Well, I guess this kind of lifestyle is exactly what native people did before colonisation (and are doing again by reconnecting to the culture and land).

Rob
I love watching your videos.
I am so intrigued with forging.
The only thing is I know little about it. (Compared to many)
I'm afraid I might pick something to eat, thinking it is a certain food only to find out it might be something else poisonous.
I have a white mulberry tree in my backyard.
I didn't realize it was a mulberry tree until someone else pointed it out.
I got a few berries but the birds got almost all of them.
After listening to you I see that the leaves are edible.
Looking online I see where you can make tea out of the leaves also.
I'm going to try this.
My big thing this year is I have lambs quarter all over my yard. (Weed that is a superfood)
I pick it and eat it in salads but now have dried a lot of it to grind down and put into smoothies or to make tea out of it.

my favorite foraged herbs/spices are sumac, spicebush, ground ivy, mugwort, bee balm, and juniper. and of course your alliums, i always make allium canadense powder as my onion powder, and oniongrass for chives. fresh lemon balm and wood sorrel are always good but i find the flavor doesn't hold up well when dried. magnolia grandiflora leaves in place of bay leaves! and drying and powdering the tough parts of mushrooms makes some fun seasonings. (I just keep thinking of more!)
