I'm not Jewish but even I understood that commandment was against murder not overall killing.

He is correct, killing in self defense is not murder, and does not violate the commandment.

As a native Hebrew speaker, I can confirm that he is correct about the words and their meanings.

I am 71 years old and I just learned this recently. It is a very important concept and I am thankful that you are discussing this and providing this information to the general public.

I'm an atheist, but even I have always assumed that this was common knowledge that didn't need explaining, or debating!

Another mistake people make is saying that money is the root of all evil. More accurate is "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil."

This is what i have always thought about all this time. I always love knowing the meaning of words, people are not careful with their words and often use some words interchangeably when they don't have the same meaning. Like kill and murder, envy and jealousy, stealing and robbing and many more. Words have power, therefore they should not be taken for granted

No one wants to kill . Sometimes there is no other way . God certainly understands self defense . We must constantly prepare for the worst in people but pray for the best in people . We must recognize the differences....

Jesue also made this clear. When he said, if you have hate in your heart, your a murderer. He looks at the intent is our heart.

Sadly, in the theatre of war, there seems to be a very fine line between killing and murder. Either we say that the threat against your life is all-encompassing, and anything goes to beat the enemy as it is all seen as self defence, even if you are lobbing shells at people miles away that course you no threat at that particular time. Or we actually go back to grass roots and realise that this was written when wars were mainly fought in hand to hand combat where the threat to your life was obvious. But maybe the world should think far more seriously about the words thou shall not kill and realise murder is inevitable in war and consider this before starting any war.

Thank you Dennis Prager for clearing any confusion that people may have🫡

I agree with him completely besides this small mistake: he says ‘illegal killing’

The justice system does not define morality, he should have said ‘unjust killing’

He was interesting in how he laid that explanation out.

Christ also said "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him."

An Eye for an Eye means not to over punish.❤

Precisely. Not understanding the actual meaning of this Commandment is why there is so much opposition to the death penalty in many states.

"Do not kill".... everyone is immediately guilty because they're alive. Ever stepped on a bug? Yes, even if you don't realise you have, everyone has. This translation explanation makes sense
