I have always wondered what the difference between the i and the p next to the channel resolution was and i decided to finally look it up! I was so excited by this seemingly insignificant and innocuous bit of information that I had to make a video sharing this cool (and VERY VERY RELEVANT!) bit of information.

Actually 720p is used for sports by ABC and FOX for improved imagery and capturing action of their sports programming., providing 720 line 60fps images. 1080i provides only 540 resolution odd/even image fields at to create full 1080i image 30fps. But this isn’t as effective for covering sports action of balls, running players and other rapid movement, including camera movement such as pans.
