720p = 1 Million pixels at 60fps progressive
1080i = 2 Million pixels at 30fps interlaced (technically gives you fake 60fps combining lines of images together)

personally, I prefer 720p and 1080p... if I had an option to choose 720p or 1080i... 720p it is for me.

If you look closely you can tell that 1080i has more trouble displaying quick motion while 720p seems quite fine. It's all because of 1080i displaying its pixel lines alternately, where 720p displays its lines all together.

1080i is basically screen tearing hell

I can't tell difference since I'm watching this on a crt monitor which is design for interlaced.

lol so that's why I haven't seen the difference in the video. I was watching at 720p.

For me 720p is more detailed cuz 1080i is a lil bit blurry

Depends on the tv + settings and if the game was made to run on 720 or 1080.

1080i is bad for movement even in the vid it took time to interlace them and made it look jittery

On a real world LCD TV (not this youtube test) you can't tell the difference between 720p vs 1080i. If I have to choose, I pick 1080i. Of course most people can run 1080p today, which is better than both.

I think 720p looks nicer... 1080i has too much interlacing artifacts

The only reason 1080i shows those artifacts is because it is INTERLACED and interlaced video will show that if PLAYED BACK ON A NON-INTERLACED DISPLAY, if used on an actual 1080i display you would NOT SEE ANY OF THOSE ARTIFACTS plus you'd get the benefit of the higher res removing some of those jaggies.

From what I've experienced, it seems like 1080i is terrible quality. I don't know; motion just seems to suck. My parents just bought a 55" HDTV and I was setting it up; I quickly noticed when I set the resolution to 1080i; any and all motion seemed interlaced with each other and blurred together; it would also seem to glitch often. I used to think that 1080i was better than all other resolutions but really, you don't get to see 1080i's real effects until you get a large screen (I used to play games on my PS3 at a 1080i but I never noticed it with my 22" HDTV). You won't really notice anything until you view different resolutions in screens larger than 40"+. The way I see it: the good resolutions are: 1080p, to 720p, then, 1080i-->with 480p and 240p following behind. I don't even know why people have a 140p. :3

720p definitely !!! Just pause the video around 1:35 and you'll see all the interlaced lines...
TV manufacturers and cable companies are pushing 1080i content as 'better', what a scam! I won't even mention the 4K pushed in Laptop computers, to be seen at 1m max...
One other factor is that most cable companies don't even use 720p but 1366x768p, which gives 1, 049, 088 pixels in progressive scan, way better than the 1, 036, 800 pixels of 1080i (every 60th of a second)

i dont see any differents between 800p and 1080p so i play all games on 800p with 60 fps XD

The video is in 480p, how is it going to show which one is better?

williamzhang

the game was only rendered in 730p so why would you play it in 1080i and why wouldn't you just play it in 1080p anyway

You gotta enable 1080p on the youtube and go full screen to see how 1080i affects the video.
When it comes to motion, you can see 'cuts' in the picture.
