In this video, I introduce the topic we cover in my new course, Brain Retraining 101: For ME/CFS & Long Covid Recovery.

This course is for people who know or strongly suspect that they are facing a functional illness and that utilizing strategies that address the brain and autonomic nervous system will be key components of their recovery.

I hope to see you there!

I completely understand 100% what you meant by “can become afraid of life.” I experienced that and am training with it still. Widening my window of living my life. Thank you for talking about PEM. Directly addressing this. PEM can truly lead to becoming frightened of life. I appreciate you, Raelan!

Hey Raelan, through knowledge and my own experience I'm totally certain that CFS is a neural curcuit issue through central sensitization. And your channel - through experience and scientific knowledge - provides a lot of help to understand and overcome this syndrome. 🙏❤️
But in my opinion we have to be careful not to oversimplify and be more accurate when explaining.
The danger response as a protection mechanism and the associated exertion intolerance (and stimulus intolerance) is not the same as a normal fear or anxiety of the mind.
So PEM is not just that "we have become afraid of life".
I think there are a lot of people who weren't afraid at the onset of the syndrome and kept moving forward, kept fighting, perhaps even pushing through only to dig themselves deeper into the hole because they didn't listen to their bodies.
And on the other hand there are millions of people worldwide experiencing severe anxiety and not getting CFS.
We have to retrain the stress and stimulus response of our brains and relearn how to engage in the world in a more balanced way.
Nature is smart.
best regards 🤗

Brain retraining for sure can help a lot. Some people can even go in remission. But please don't oversimplify it. You wouldn't tell people with MS that they are afraid of life because activity caused a flare or would you?
