How Pereira Always Finds His Target - The Secret Behind Poatan's Deadly Style

Alex Pereira is a multi weight champion in kickboxing and MMA. Known for his incredible rivalry with Israel Adesanya and his tremendous left hook, Periera is well worth studying. When I watch him fight, I notice relaxed probing footwork, smooth controlled rhythm, classic tall man defenses, and a calm confidence. All of these things make him one of the most dangerous men to ever enter a ring or octagon.

Small correction, meant to say he intercepted jabs and lead hooks near the end of the vid, not only jabs. Books linked below, happy training!

I think he's really good at punishing bad habits. Also, he has the perfect build for throwing the left hook without needing to gazelle step, much like Tommy Morrison.

Finally someone praising alex's defense, while others just say that he has no defense at all.

Never strike up a conversation with Poatan..., He'll counter your point (with a left check hook).

Machida always says Poatan is a cerebral fighter with great rational understanding and a no nonsense approach to fighting, which makes me wonder how he'll fare against Jones. The single thing I don't love about his style is his reliance on his chin. He's tough, but he's no Hagler, and snipers like Izzy, who's not afraid to trade, can and have put him down. Izzy's last KO against Poatan was a lucky shot, but luck favours the prepared, and it would have been even more unlikely if Poatan defended in a way that blocked more shots. I hope he can still fix this, as he just keeps getting better. Also, I love how Poatan kinda means "hands of stone". Duran would approve.

Fantastic video as usual, and that line "how he beat adesanya one of the 52 times they fought" had me laughing out loud haha

His head movements always reminded me of how Anderson Silva would always shrug or twist his head enough to let most of the shot not land clean, and then smash in at the same time with a counter. Stone hands doesn't play around 👊

The guard he uses with low hands and arms extended reminds me of foreman or Klitschko. Id say he uses it closer to Klitschko than foreman because i havent seen him use hand traps the way foreman did. he does use it to maintain distance. Ive noticed that sean strickland has started to use that guard and long guard tactics, (especially in sparring footage) but he uses it more frames, hand traps, etc then pereira. Maybe he was influenced by sparring and training with alex? or maybe he came up with it on his own.

I've been waiting for this video for a while. I've been watching Pereira since glory went on UFC fight pass. Always been my favorite kickboxer and I was so excited to see he signed with the UFC. Never imagined he would have the sucsess he has. Now he is one of my top 3 favorite fighters ever and i am so glad i got to experience his rise from those days till now.
