Learner Doesn't Know the Speed Limit on Test. #mocktest

As far as I'm aware, as a non driver, wouldn't there be repeater signs telling you the speed limit is lower than the national speed limit on a road like this, or repeater signs if its lower than 30 on a more urban street?

My instructor always told me if you’re unsure about the speed on a road, it’s always better to go slower than faster. If you go slower you’ll only get a minor depending on how slow, but if you go fast you could potentially fail your test.

In Australia you're allowed to ask the driving examiner what the speed limit is at any time!

I mean we sometimes might miss the sign and i think because she's doing a mock test she would rather be safe than sorry, if i was unsure and it looks like a 60 i would go about 45mph and our roads are bendy

I did this on my driving test and still passed. I thought I was on a 60 so started to speed up then realised it was a 40. The examiner said because I realised my mistake and slowed down he marked it as a minor.

If no street lights or repeater signs the speed limit is 60 on a single lane carriage way.

Also they do have speed signs but a lot of the time they are hidden by vegetation and or covered in green algae.

She is using the mock exam exactly for its intended purpose, you are not her examiner, youre the person training her for the examiner.

On my test I came to a road which had speed limit signs on either side of the road. one said 20 one said 30…. Examiner was really good though and spotted it straight away and said ‘do 20 mph to be on the safe side’….passed though so happy days

This is a surprisingly common issue, especially in the rural US. Speed zones often change, but it may be up to 2 miles before a sign shows it. Often times, it’s important to know the default speed limit of a road in a specific county (based on road type if applicable).

I had this happen in my driving test in germany, It was a construction area so it was 30kmh but the construction area ended and no sign indicated that the speed limit went back to 50kmh so I drove 35.
My instructor said “Are we not supposed to get back to the driving school?” and I realized what he meant so I sped up to 50 again.

I really like the feature on some newer cars that recognise the speed limit signs and display the last change on the dash. There are so many speed limit changes in modern busy urban environments that it's easy to be unsure of what the current limit is.

If I don’t know the speed limit I usually stick around 30-40 depending on the other cars around me
