If you go on your driving test and end up in a situation where you have missed the speed limit sign that could be the end of your driving test. This skill i'm about to show you is a nice easy to way to remember how to tell the speed limit without signs UK. This method for how to tell the speed limit UK works in 99% of normal situations and can be a lifesaver on your driving test as it gives you a massive advantage when under all that pressure and the nerves are going crazy. If you are wandering what the national speed limit UK is this will help you always remember it for future. It is also a way to help you always spot speed limit in the future.

Just remember National Speed limit is an absolute limit and does not mean you should always be at this limit as this will massively depend on the road and conditions. Here how the police explain it:

The speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions. Driving at speeds too fast for the road and traffic conditions is dangerous. You should always reduce your speed when:

the road layout or condition presents hazards such as bends
sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, particularly children and motorcyclists
weather conditions make it safer to do so
driving at night as it is more difficult to see other road users.

Who's here because they've just had to do a speed awareness course? 😀

It is absolutely stupid that wide clear roads are 30 mph and narrow twisty country lanes are 60 mph. The whole thing badly in need of an overhaul.

Very informative indeed. Was struggling to notice speed limits in today's mock test and was not sure how to guess the speed, It makes lot of sense what you explained

when I was taught yo drive I was taught to always drive at a speed at which you can stop in the distance you can see free of other traffic especially outside an urban area in national speed limit areas. (the West Mercia police taught me to drive cars).
and many of their tipss have saved me from accidents since

In an increasing number of London boroughs the limit is 20 on almost every road across the borough, but with very few repeaters on the lampposts. You just cannot assume that the limit is 30 any more.

Had to cancel my part 2 due to Covid in November but got a cancellation in December and passed👍🏻
Lost the speed limits on a few roads but remembered your tip about driving at 30 till you can find out speed limit and adjust speed if necessary. Thanks for doing the videos as they certainly helped me pass.
Thanks josh.👍🏻onto part 3🤞🏻

Having watching a Driving Instructor causing an accident only a week ago, he was driving the car himself, I may well say it is the instructors who need a look at as well!

Thank you for this! I'm currently learning to drive and I keep missing the speed limit signs due to nerves and trying to take everything in/be safe.

Something that I keep in mind, is that. If there are street lights but no speed limit, I'd always assume 20 just because going the lower speed limit that you assume causes less harm than going higher than the one you assume. Although if there are no speed limit signs then it is pretty obvious to me now that it is 30mph since if it was 20mph there would most likely be road humps and other traffic calming measures.

The problem is more and more roads in London are turning into 20mph which once were 30mph. So the street lights rule of thumb doesn't work here anymore unfortunately. You constantly have to check the new speed limits every road you turn onto. So many have received speeding tickets lately for assuming it's 30mph.

Well thanks for the late video lol, I recently failed my ADI part 2, had great test was in area didn’t have a clue about, then unfortunately missed one sign, didn’t know what speed was everyone else was going fast so I presumed was a 40 mph, doing 34 get back to test centre failed one serious all I got great,
