Tom Hanks tells us there was a discussion about making a sequel to the hit classic Forrest Gump, but ultimately the studio couldn't convince them to.

The ending was the most perfect thing I had ever seen as a child back then.. It was right up there with Lord of the rings Trilogy.

The original book had a sequel called Gump and Co. I think this is what he may be referring to because they were planning on making it but after the 9/11 attacks the tone felt out of touch along with the book sequel not even being well received. Forest Gump created New Coke...

The real story to do would be to just reimagine the movie from Lt. Dan's perspective. Dude went through so much off screen it would be interesting to see his adventures.

Everyone knows that The Waterboy is the sequel to Forrest Gump, it just focuses on his football days.

I’m so glad they never made a sequel. Though I have thought that it would be interesting if now they made “Forrest Gump Jr” which could focus on Forrest’s son. Forrest Jr could then go through 9/11, the Gulf War, the Bush administration, the Great Recession, the Obama administration, the death of Osama bin Laden, the War in Ukraine, the Trump administration, the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, the Covid outbreak, and then the death of his father at the end which could pack an emotional punch with Tom Hanks back in the role.

Forrest Gump was a novel long before it was a movie I found it by accident one day at the library and loved it when it became a movie I thought I can't wait to see it and I loved the movie too, being a sap I probably would have loved the sequel we're not all hacks just happy for good entertainment❤

Outstanding that they stood by their convictions. We forget most people in Hollywood are not making multi million dollar contracts and nervous about where their money will come from. Doing a sequel like this would've been lucrative. But it wouldn't be good. And many of the people that aren't the stars will be able to go try to get good work that they can be proud of.

We only see the failures of convictions that turn out poorly, and not the good decisions to avoid a bad decision.
