My pop just died two months ago at 103 years old. He served in WW2 and was so proud of it, he spoke of it often. I miss that old man so much.

My uncle, 18 years young, died on D-Day at Normandy. He was small & weighed down by his pack
Like many others, he was killed in the water, never even reaching the beach. People fail to understand the brutality of D-Day & the truly selfless sacrifice that many young men made on that day. Every year, my mother pulled out his final letter to her. She would read it with tears running down her face.

As a german guy I can’t thank You enough for all You did. There’s no place for racism, antisemitism and hate. Peace is so fragile that unfortunately we have to fight for it from time to time.

She tried to bait him multiple times and he switched on her multiple times. Well done Mr. Hanks.

Jeezus, CNN. That's NOT the headline this interview warrants. Good grief.

I applaud Tom Hanks for not taking the CNN bait on such an important date. He left the spotlight on the heroes of D-Day they were there to honor. Well done sir, thank you.

The title may be bait and switch, but I'm glad I listened to this interview.

My grandpa wrote a letter every chance he could to my grandma, he made sure that he only spoke of happy and hopeful things. Except for one letter in early April of ‘45 that read only “If hell is any hotter, I hope I’m never there”… gave me chills reading what a 23 year old man at the time was thinking . Not until my own time seeing the evils of war while deployed did I understand what he meant. Semper Fi grandpa

The fact CNN used this headline for what amounted to a five second no comment tells u all u need to know about CNN. Kudos to Hanks for no taking the bait, for keeping the focus on those brave men that fought.

Rest in peace William ‘Bill’ H. Cameron, Canadian Naval war hero of D-Day. He was 100 years old, mere days away from this special reunion. Your service shall never be forgotten.

My grandpa was a ww2 war hero, who deployed at 17, and who lived to 93 despite lifelong injuries and ptsd… these men were made different.

"They" can never seem to bait a sharp mind. He was there to pay respect. Brilliant man.

I was born almost 30 years after D-Day in Germany and I am forever grateful that these people, from a continent far away from Europe, took the decision to say: "We need to step in to do something!"
I bow may head to all these men that gave their life to help Europe to be free. You did the right move!
Thank you and glory to you!
I hope and pray we have such fine people today to defend our liberty again, in every corner of the world!

Tom Hanks by his eloquence and expressions proves one more time to be a living legend. This guy is truly a masterpiece in his own right.

Extremely likeable guy. The way he answered that question was fair and about the bigger question on history of the country looking forward. Wise man.

I'm a 66 year old female Army veteran and I applaud Tom Hanks for reminding us why we sign up to serve in the U. S. Armed Services. HOME of the FREE, BECAUSE of the BRAVE!

Mr Hanks is surprising me through this cogent interview. My father was in the landing force and I’m realizing, perhaps for the first time, what a hero he was. He was 19 years old.

He dodged that question like a politician.

That's okay Tom, its just fine to be "the goody two-shoes." We need more of those in the days to come. Much respect to you.
