The Consequences of Choosing Cheap Meat | Meat Lobby | Meatpacking Industry | Business Explainer Video

The average price of one pound of chicken in 2019 was $ 1,92. That's almost half of what it was in 1960. At the same time, the beef price fell by roughly 20%. Behind the cheap prices is an industry that aggressively consolidated on the last year. Companies like Tyson, JBS and Cargill dominated the market in the United States. The world nowadays produces more than three times the amount of meat as in 1970. All this while more and more evidence reveals that meat production has a huge negative impact on the environment, climate and human health. And here we are: more people are eating meat because it’s cheap (and delicious!), but production on an industrial level is coming at an exorbitant price. How did we end up here? In this video, we show what is behind very cheap meat. How conditions of suppliers, workers and animals have deteriorated so the meat can be as cheap as possible. And how strong the Meat Lobby is to pressure governments and get rid of regulations.

The problem is not meat. The problem is poor behavior by consumers and a culture of waste.

Cheap meat is also caused by massive corn subsidies.

It's been a while since I ate at Outback Steakhouse. I decided to take my nephew and his family to dinner for his birthday. We all got the worst steaks ever. They were cooked properly but the meat was obviously of lower quality than what they use to serve. They've really gone down hill. Won't be wasting my money at any of the chain steakhouses anymore. They're all using lower grade beef. I'll cook it myself at home if I want a good steak.

Lol meat is not cheap, vegetables are even more affordable in my 3rd world. You can literally get some vegetables from your neighbors for FREE or grow them by your own. This is more common practice in countryside residences.. Moreover, fastfood and meats are more expensive here.. We even think that whoever can afford Starbucks is probably rich.. Poor people in my country are healthier becase all they eat are fresh fish harvested from the ocean or fruits and veggies gathered from their own farms or from the forests..

I stopped eating meat in 1991 when I was 27. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner, same with going vegan in 2019. Meat and dairy are linked to cancer, diabetes and heart disease. I stopped for ethical reasons and when I gave up dairy my fibromyalgia pain went away within weeks. I suffered for 10 years and did my doctors every tell me that dairy causes inflammation? Nope, and I do all my research now.

10% of my American monthly budget for food is spent on about 10% of my monthly American food costs. And I NEVER eat out. Where do they get their figures? I would like to meet the people that are able to get their food so cheap.

They lost me with plant based meat but it was at the end anyway. Because of greed and mass production everything we eat is manipulated either meat or plant or dairy. Everything in the supermarket contains something not good for you even claimed organic food. Vegan or not, grow your own food.

I stopped eating meat not for enviromental reasons but for health reasons. But I eat fish. My skin is way cleaner I have pimples only occasionally. But idk if it is because of my diet. I also feel tired sometimes I guess I need to eat more.

Human always finds something to complain.. complain on hunger during food scarcity. Complain about cheap food when our stomach is full.. how about being happy and feeling blessed for once?

In Biblical times, meat consumption was relegated to sheep and goats. Cows were meant for tilling the soil and as a workhorse. In fact, if you go through the Middle East and parts of Africa, goats are still a great source of animal protein.

There are some folks in America’s Heartland who raised goats for contract grazing, thus eliminating the need for herbicides and machinery employed by crop farmers and cattle growers to fend off noxious weeds. Some raide goats for contract grazing alone, others also for slaughter.

Now, if there is one thing these goats are good at, is eating up poisoning weeds, and through the process of digesting these plants, they actually manage to metabolize trace minerals, absorbed by such plants. Minerals we actually need for our well being. Whether it is through the milk or meat, we consume quality untainted meat, no grain fed, no carcinogens.

As a children, a roast chicken was a Sunday treat. Red meat once a week. Pork only when we order a slaughter of a whole pork, and my mother would process out one cuts into smoked sausage, bacon, minced meat, blood sausages, pork bellies, and feet / tail/ears would be salted and preserved under clay buckets.

Yes, too much meat consumption is as just as bad as no meat at all. Hence nível diseases, Colon Cancer, clogged arteries, and so on.
