You're projecting on the wrong stuff !

When it comes to projections or even video projection mapping, the surface is an important player in this game.
If it's too white, it will pick up a lot of the ambient light that might be around you. So to create the perfect projection screen you might need to think about different colours – like grey or black.

White is the best colour to project on *if* you have full blackout conditions. Barium Sulfide is a great idea for cinema.

Black is ideal for the off state of screens which deal well with ambient light. Most CRTs are dark grey, and getting a good black is pretty hard using digital systems. Even LED tiles have black issues in ambient light.

Running a black screen wrinkly is a new one on me, bruv. Ideal for rocks.

Thanks for this video! I am probably not your typical intended audience member, but this was very helpful to me to learn and understand about projecting onto dark surfaces. I am trying to do projection videos on my house (projection mapping) for Halloween and Christmas, but I have two challenges: 1. I have a very dark gray house and 2. I have never gambrel roof so it comes down halfway in the front of my house, projecting onto dark gray asphalt shingles is not exactly the best surface!

I have a dark house with dark green plastic siding, and dark coloured stone tiles. Is there some sort of gloss material I can put over top of the surfaces of my house to make it work for projection mapping?

what is the name of the powder you used? I've been working on projection mapping and I have a dark surface, what do you called the particles you used to the 2nd and 3rd black object? thanks!

Interesting topic! Do you think this paint would work for non-flat sufaces? Say a sculpture of a face for example? Looking into these projection techniques and seems there is way more to consider regarding materials and lighting that i originally imainged. Many thanks :)
