Jordan, the problem is that some people actually sear their conscience and it becomes deadened to that anxiety/warning from within. The bible actually warns about this. God has given every man a conscience and it is up to us whether to listen to it, or not. The wound of some people can become incurable. The iniquity can become full. It is a terrible thing to think, but we have several examples of this throughout history. This is a process of always rejecting the warnings your conscience gives you, in order to get some kind of personal outcome for your own selfish gain, that all of us struggle with. It is a process of rejecting that conscience over and over again, and only desiring an outcome for yourself, no matter who gets hurt in the process. Feeding that green eyed monster within is NOT a good idea, but should be resisted. I am fully convinced that this is the process a narcissist goes through. I think what you are dealing with is a seared conscience. That is why they can easily use lovebombing, gaslighting, deflection, projection, and then discard and slander. This is why they have no empathy towards others. They have rejected their consciences warnings during their lifetimes, and eventually they deadened their conscience to where they no longer hear it. People wonder how they sleep at night. The reality is probably just fine. They no longer have a conscience pricking them. I have had the misfortune of dealing with a Covert narcissist in my lifetime, and it was the worst experience of my life. I remember the times I looked into cold, dark, dead eyes. The conscience was gone. It was like looking into the eyes of the devil himself. People, don't ignore the warnings your conscience gives you, don't get to the point of no return. God has warned us in His word. All of us have the potential within to get to that point. Take the warning seriously.

I think Psychology can be boiled down the the simplicity of swinging a hammer. There is Right and Wrong, the pain in your thumb confirms your actions were wrong. No pain suggests you hit the nail. Same goes for your sympathy or lack of, towards other peoples pain resulting from your actions.
