You see, this is exactly why I love this channel. One can be a history buff and know a lot about something, but this exercise was a completely obscure piece of history for me; I had never heard of this. Almost 800 men lost in just a few hours... Thank you for keeping their memory alive.

I am very well read on WW2 history but I constantly learn new things from Mark Felton I had never heard about before. Watching Mark Felton videos is a requirement if you really want to know all there is about history. Thank you Mark for all your efforts to educate us all.

Thank you Mark. It is good and useful to remember that D-Day was so much more than one day.

That operation would be called in technical military terms an absolute clusterfuck. Hopefully some valuable lessons were learned from that tragedy in time for D-day.

Great story. Never heard of this before. Great tribute to the men, all the servicemen, who lived and died on "D-Day." The men of the "Greatest Generation."

Dear god. Imagine if you had to dive down there to identify the officers amongst the hundreds of dead in that deep darkness...

My local beach! Every local knows the story of Exercise Tiger, every villager from Start Point to Stoke Fleming was relocated away from the area for it to take place

I was hoping you would cover this Mark. I read about this event many years ago in depth. It really was a colossal cluster f**k on so many levels. I encourage every history buff to read up on it. Truly tragic.

Ive known of this incident for ages (early 2000's) but i always had this recollection of it costing circa 500 lives, +700 is way more. War is hell.

I don’t think video content gets better than this. Each time I think this he out does himself again. Damn!

Great video as usual. My grandfather missed that action of D-Day he was on his way to the conflict. He arrived in time to fight in the hedge-rows in France. He got to guard a captured U-Boat base, he also worked for Gen. Patton, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. And, after the battle, a local, world famous artist inlaid diamond shaped pearl bits in the handle of Grandpa's bayonet. Grandpa's brothers were captured and were in the death march in the Philippines. Grandpa, George Rankin, did other notable things, and took lots of pictures but almost all of his photos disappeared when he came back to the US.

By the way Ken Small had to pay the US Government for the Sherman, he paid $50.

This was kept secret for many years. My father who was cycling in Cornwall at the time had a sneaking suspicion that something had happened.
