As a Canadian, who had 3 uncles fight in that campaign, I am grateful and humbled to the Dutch people who have made this movie and have always kept those Canadian soldiers memories alive

As a Canadian vet, I encourage anyone to visit Vimy Ridge and the Menin gate. The MG is breathtakingly beautiful. And when you get to the section that contains the Canadian names... you will walk, and walk... and walk. It's heartbreaking seeing how many Canadians lost their lives. Me being me, I went to local pubs to meet the locals. I sat down at the bar, ordered a beer. Within 10 minutes of the barmaid finding out I was Canadian, almost everyone else in the pub was sitting around me. We laughed, told stories, and nobody let me pay for a single thing. Barmaid even sent me on my way with a beautiful stein that I still drink out of, years later. God bless all the Canadians who served. You helped shape the world for the better, and asked nothing in return.

I live on Walcheren island and from the stories of my grandparents, I can tell that this battle was an absolute hell. Therefore, it was a big honour to play as a soldier in this movie

My grandpa liberated holland with the Canadian forces, and met my grandmother. So great to see this story being told, it's close to home.

For once they got native speakers to play the roles of Germans, Dutchmen, etc. (just like "Band of Brothers" did). Impressed.

My uncle was killed at Walcheren on 1 November 1944. He was a lieutenant in the South African Union Defence Force but was serving in the Royal Marine Commando forces that landed at Westkapelle. He was killed on the way into shore, apparently by artillery. Although I understand he has no grave as a result of the way he died in action, I have been pleased to find out he is commemorated on memorials on Walcheren Island. His name is on the roll of honour for the 41 Royal Marine Commando at Westkapelle and on the memorial at Domburg. It is good that this operation has been portrayed in a film, as it has often been overshadowed by other operations.

As the son of a veteran of that campaign, a big heartfelt thanks goes to the citizens of the Netherlands. Thank you for treating my Dad, and the other vets so well. Thank for for remembering, and allowing those men to keep their honour to the last. You are all magnificent.

My Grandfather fought in this battle. I often wondered if I would ever see the efforts of the Canadian Corps. portrayed as anything more than the junior partners in the Allied War effort. Thank you Netflix, and thank you to the filmmakers who are trying to illustrate an overlooked part of our history. We need more of this going forward. Much of the craziness in the world is due to people not knowing about history. It won’t cure us, but it might help us to make better decisions. We can hope.

Brit here - about damn time someone pays attention to the battles along the Scheldt and 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions. Absolutely critical to the North-West Europe campaign but so often overlooked. Hopefully Walcheren & British 52nd Division get a look-in too.

My great uncle fought in the Netherlands for Canada. I never could have imagined it look like this. Grateful for these stories in place of stories that were never told

It’s been out in cinemas for a few months now in the Netherlands. It’s one of the best war movies I have ever seen.
Pretty sure it’s also the most expensive Dutch-made movie ever, and it shows, quality is amazing!!

It’s good to see our Canadian brother’s finally getting some attention for their gallant actions in WW2 .

I don't get why this film isn't given more credit. The battle scene with the Canadian/British v German soldiers is gritty, brutal and almost as intense as the D-Day scene in Saving Private Ryan. Give this a watch if you haven't already. Ten stars.

It's always a pleasure to hear the foreign language when a scene in a movie warrants it, because it gives the movie and you a deeper sense of realism.

My Oma grew up in Holland during the occupation, I only talked with her about it once but I remember she said that when the Canadian's dropped bread over their house it was the best tasting bread she's ever had. She moved to Canada in 1955 and died there in 2011.

This is the Canadian army opening up the port of antwerp, was a vital allied victory tbh lots of lives lost on both allied and axis sides. Mainly Canadian army for the allies with small British and Polish units attached.
