Yep, most of my habits were built instantly, however they didn't become "habits" right away.
I think that the whole thing about 21/67 days habit is - when you repeat something over and over, you don't need to have this initial energy or willpower to do it, it's automatic.
I do agree that you need to make an instant decision to change something like you said, but in order to make it a habit it takes some time
Actually, when it becomes a habit it doesn't fade away so easily because you're used to it, like the cold shower experiment - most of the the people who took cold showers for 30 days (I think) continued to do so even after the experiment ended

I think those "21" or "67" days are meant to make people keep creating the habit, and eventually people would forget when it "ends", and just continue, but, something went wrong... and myth is created.

Most people think that habit will *make them repeat the task* although habit is *when YOU willingly repeat the task* iver and over again...

I have been doing my own experiments on the topic and I think you are onto something.

I've build several habits by going completely cold turkey. I started reading every single day for 7 years now. It was a spur of the moment decision. It turned into a habit a bit later, but I stuck to it because I believed that was it. I started eating healthily and losing weight (lost 120+ lbs) as a spur of the moment decision. Now I don't even want to look at junk food. I have the occasional pizza, but that's pretty much it. I have also quit watching porn completely cold turkey, no accountability, no nothing. Just like that. I think it's past the 100th day mark so far.

And yes, it takes a shift of mind. You have to want it with everything in you to make it happen. I've tried that with exercises but I always found excuses to skip a day. I've tried it with writing, but again, I was finding excuses. So building a habit instantly can happen, but it takes dedication. And I think previous discipline in other fields helps as well.

Nice message! It is pointless to struggle to establish a habit if you stop doing it after you hit a milestone.

I love your channel so much. It's helped me in most areas of my life and I've only been watching your videos for the past 2 months. My self discipline has improved and my confidence during interactions with girls has skyrocketed.

The whole 21 days to form a habit thing helped me start doing 30 pull-ups everyday, and I've been doing them since the 1st of July. The 21 day myth helps you get started, but just as you said, you need to focus on the long term, seeing the habit as something you need to do till the day you die.

I absolutely agree with you, and thanks so much for the time and effort you put into your videos.
You are the bomb 💣💣

I understand that you are talking about developing a habit instantly is way effective and better way to go. I have a different approach to that 21 day thing.
I think of 21 days challenge instead of 21 days habit. And i think 21 days challenges are good because they are short but long enough to increase willpower stamina. It's easier to do stg for 21 days then doing it forever but harder then try it for a day. And because it is short i rather call it a challenge then a habit. These challenges bring new things that i would never wanted to start anyway as a habit.
21 days challenges are there to start something new and the main key is the START and not just give it a try and give up when i don't like it but be able to reach a small goal within 21 days.

And it's working for me. Since i'm not that strong than the character in this video.

21 days workout and diets are just a push, not a final goals. They don't last long. It's clear. Though i lost 22 pounds with 2 week because of carb diet this year and that weight is stationary. But i'm repeating it every half year for 2 weeks since 2010. Sometimes it does not helps to loose weight at all, sometimes it does. But i feels good to achieve small goals like this.

Doing finances, talking to someone every day, workout are good habits for a lifetime not for short period of time. I get it. But would you do cooking Italian for rest of your life or you would go with it for 21 days and than go back whenever you want to?

Btw talking to some stranger every day - i need to try it!

It clicked at 3:50 when you said "there will be no end I will continually improve". If you notice our billionaires you will see they don't stop, they aren't finished. They continue to be better and improve themselves at every step.

I quit smoking, by deciding to stop. Not by okay today I smoke only 5 cigarettes or I only smoke on parties. No I had to decide, to understand that I want to quit smoking. That way it worked. So I totally get what you are aiming for with this video.
