CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Mickey (Burgess Meredith) warns Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) about Clubber.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Sylvester Stallone returns to the character which made him famous in this wildly successful sequel. Rocky III starts with the Italian Stallion so famous that his likeness is everywhere, including pinball machines. Fame and complacency soon cause Balboa to lose his title to young thug Clubber Lang (Mr. T), who inadvertently causes the death of Rocky's beloved trainer, Mickey (Burgess Meredith), before their first championship bout. After sinking into a depression, Balboa must regain the love and support of his family, as well as the elusive "eye of the tiger," the hungry need to beat the opponent which former foe Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) teaches him during this film's de rigueur training sequence. In the end, Balboa faces off against Lang for a second time. "Eye of the Tiger," the theme song Stallone commissioned from the band Survivor, became a huge hit single.

Once you're at the top and you've been there for a while, you lose hunger and you get comfortable. That applies to so many things in life.

"Why did you do it?"

"Because the beating that ya got from Apollo shoulda killed ya kid. It didn't. It was my job to keep ya winning, and to keep ya healthy."

Oh my god, Mickey is such a dad. Always taking care of Rock.

I look at the first three Rocky movies as a good trilogy. First one he goes the distance and proves to himself he isn't some bum from Philadelphia. Second one, he proves he's championship material. Finally, in the third, is a success but soon loses his edge, forgets where it came from. Regains that fighting spirit lost to complacency and proves when he's knocked down, he can get back up.

in creed 2, Adonis came to Rocky telling him he wants to fight Viktor Drago. Rocky told him "You have everything to lose, he has nothing to lose. A fighter that has nothing to lose is the most dangerous fighter". That line brought me back to this movie. Clubber had nothing to lose and Rocky had everything to lose. And when he lost that fight, Rock basically lost almost everything. His will to fight, he went into a depression, and he lost his coach and friend Mick.

"This guy is a WRECKING MACHINE! And he's hungry!"
Best line that gets me amped up for a workout!

I love the fact how mickey states that the other fighters were good but not killers. That's something every fighter every martial artist every boxer needs to understand.
You can see just how much mickey cares for rocky

This is why Rocky 3 is my favorite Rocky film, because it seems like the hardest challenge Rocky ever faced mentally. He has to grieve for the man he spent his whole life looking up to and trusting. Then he has to go out and prove that man wrong.

The parallels of the Rocky movies to Stallone's real life rise and fall and rise again are amazing. Rocky, he's a nobody who gets a shot of a lifetime that changes everything. Rocky II, he's out to prove the amazing success was not a fluke. Rocky III, the trappings of success and fame literally start to change him. Hell, even Sly's physical appearance is different. Rocky IV is just excess, with all pretense of the underdog heart of the original replaced with a big expensive blockbuster look and feel. Rocky V is the fall from grace. Sly had made flops like Over The Top and Tango and Cash and went back to the well once too often in an artificial attempt to put the heart back in a dying franchise. Then you get Rocky Balboa, a movie that is everything Rocky V should've been. Plus time dulls perceptions and people love a great comeback. Creed and Creed II are Sly as the older, wiser sage that no longer has to be the lead guy but we all know and love his presence. What an enduring legacy to have left.

This is the same warning Tony gave to Apollo about the rematch with Rocky.

The same thing happened with Tyson. Don King lined him up with third rate figthers, he sleepwalks through knockouts, gets overconfident and lazy, and Buster Douglas beats him. After he got out of jail, the same thing happened again.
