Let me just say that Viola deserves the Oscar for this. Such a performance!

Viola Davis so talented it’s scary. I can’t separate the actress from the character. She’s so good.

I loved this film. It should have been nominated for best picture and adapted screenplay. Still hoping Chadwick Boseman will win a posthumous Oscar with all my ❤

I thought it was one of the most riveting provocative and emotionally challenging movie depicting Afro American music heritage I’ve ever seen. Literally moved me from laughter to tears!

Fabulous Film and Cast!!
I greatly enjoyed seeing Ma Rainey being brought back to life through Viola Davis. And being a Blues singer as well it gave me more inspiration to pursue my passion. I’ve been in Love with Blues since I was a little girl and I still am. Many thanx to all my Brothas and Sistas of Blues past, present and future.. I love you always! 👑🎙🎸

My father bought me my first Bessie Smith records when I was 10, a three album set and I loved it. This was in 1967, in the U.K. in a town in Essex. I adored it, still love this female style of blues.

It was a good movie but the ending was sudden and kinda unfinished. To me

Here's a fun fact, the first narrator for this movie, at 0:13 in this video, Glynn Turman, was the first actor cast to be Han Solo by George Lucas for Star Wars. But, 20th Century Fox Executives, in 1976 did not want a black lead. So, George Lucas was forced to recast the role of Han Solo.

I just watched it today, 2024, I found it dark, not what I was expecting, it was easy to see what the movie was portraying . That part I'm sure was accurate. The movie itself was too short to get an overall gist of what happened prior to the scenes that were shown. The music was great but it played a small part in comparison to what was going on with the band. I really thought it had two themes and I would have preferred it to be just about her. I give it a thumbs up .
