Barry Bavister (a PhD student of Edwards' who was the last surviving member of the team) told Slate that the film inaccurately portrayed his colleague Jean Purdy. It may be suspected that she had endometriosis based on its symptoms, but I don't think it's a known "fact" that she was infertile. Per Bavister (and in contrast to the film) she hoped to marry someday, and the fact that she never had children could be due to the fact that she never married and instead became sick & died before that could happen.
