The amazing true story behind 127 Hours: Aron Ralston interview (2003)

On 8 May 2003, Aron Ralston, the American canyoneer whose story was dramatised in Danny Boyle's 127 Hours (2010), held a press conference to detail the ordeal of having to amputate his arm in order to save his own life. On April 26 that year, Ralston became pinned by a fallen boulder during a solo descent of Bluejohn Canyon in southeastern Utah. After spending five days trapped in the canyon, Ralston was forced to break his arm before amputating it with a dull pocket knife. After completing the excruciating operation, Ralston then made his way through Bluejohn Canyon, rappelled down a 20 metre drop, and hiked seven miles before being rescued. Ralston was portrayed by James Franco in 127 Hours, which was itself adapted from Ralston's autobiography Between a Rock and a Hard Place.
