Anastasia's grandmother, the former empress of Russia Maria Feodorovna (formerly Princess Dagmar or Denmark) dying wish was to be buried next to her husband, the former Emperor Alexander III in St. Petersburg. That was not possible during Soviet Times.
In 2006, 140 years after she first set foot in Russia, the Empress got her wish . Her body was returned to St. Petersburg and interred next to Alexander III's tomb.

All thanks to Don Bluth childhood favorite animated film, Anastasia and The Romanov Family including Rasputin what got me into interest into the historical history similar to how Disney got me into Pocahontas even Universal got me into Balto as well.

i remember in 6th grade, we did a whole project on the romanovs, & we can had to decide whether she survived her assassination or not. definitely my favorite thing i ever researched in school prior to college.

Don Bluth's Anastasia is one of my all time favorite films! and the fact that the movie is partly based on a true story makes it all the more interesting. and even though there are many who believe that the real life Anastasia might've actually escaped the war and lived all i can say is even if she did escape she'd definitely be dead by now, because by now she'd be like 122 years old.

As a Dane, it has always annoyed me that they changed Maria to live in Paris instead of Denmark in the animated movie. Another thing you forgot to mention is, that in 2006, Dowager Empress Maria was exumed and taken back to Russia, to be reburied next to her husband.

Family accounts also tell, that the Grand Duchess’ body believed to be missing, before it was found again along with Alexei, was Maria. Not Anastasia. So already then, the movie was proven to be inaccurate.

The big “problem” with Pocahontas was its historical inaccuracy. Not like the animators we’re going for that lol. Historical accuracy doesn’t equal greatness! But again, Anastasia looks great! I want to watch it.

Anastasia is one of my top 3 absolute favorite animated movies of all times - it’s loads better than many Disney Classics, just saying - ever since it came out. ❤️❤️ And it’s a movie everyone needs to watch at least once imo.
