I felt bad for Frieren. She couldn't cry at the beginning. When my cat died, it took me about an hour before it finally hit me.

also why Himmel's death struck Frieren so hard so suddenly, was because she was perfectly at peace with Flamme's death BECAUSE she got to understand Flamme till the very end by being her apprentice, despite her never putting any thought to it . She thought it's just gonna be like Flamme's passing again, only to realize this time it's actually different.

I envy Himmel
Not because he's the hero
Not because of the fame and glory
But the adventures he had
The friends he made
The beautiful memories
The validation to oneself that he tried his best
He live to his fullest
He made his life and the people around him better
In his old age he live the rest of his life peacefully
And in his final rest, his friends smile knowing he lived a very good life

It must be agonizing for Frieren witnessing her dear friend's die before her eyes.

feels like your heart's torn apart, imagine moving on in life without them anymore.

I still can't get over the fact that Himmel is also the VA for Bakugo.

Man's deserved a reward for constantly having to destroy his vocal cords after My Hero Academia

The anime was the same as the manga for me: I knew Himmel for all of like 5 minutes, and yet his funeral and every memory Frieren has of him afterwards absolutely destroys me, as if I had watched an entire 100 episode anime of them together on their quest to kill the demon lord. I still don't know if I'm just overly empathic towards fictional characters, or if the writing was just so good to make me feel like this for a character with so little screentime.

At first, i thought Heiter only made the joke to try to lighten the mood but now it dawned on me that both him and Eisen did that so as to redirect the crowd's disdain of Frieren for not being sad to them

That shot of their last adventure attacking that beast dog got me. Eisen was the vanguard and Freiren dealt the last blow with magic. If you'll notice, Himmel has his guard still up walking stick held like a sword in front of Freiren and Heiter.

It’s moments like this that often make us wonder as to whether Immortality is a gift, or a curse?

It’s not just Himmel. The friendship of their entire group is amazing, the way they comforted Frieren and protected her from the crowd’s judgement . It’s really sweet 😊

Having watched the entire anime, I can now fully appreciate how fucking momentous and rare it is for Frieren to, not only show sadness, but openly weep during this scene. Elves truly struggle to understand and express emotions like humans do. How deep her sorrow must have been, then, that Frieren would cry with such humanity in this moment over the realization that she has squandered the fleeting years she could have had with Himmel. The years she did spend by his side was only a tiny fraction of her lifetime, but they changed her so profoundly that the ripple effects of that touched the lives of countless people for years to come.

There's a frame in this scene which is not in the video, where Frieren realizes Himel is truly gone, she was, i believe, still processing it, and when she heard the bells you can see a frame of her like "opening eyes" as if she realized something. She realized that Himel is no longer with them and she truly missed the opportunity to be with him.

"What will you have after 500 years?"

Mark: You dad. I have you.
Frieren: ...

I was heart broken when i saw this in the manga but now it is being voiced and animated. Cried like a child.

This hits hard after reading the last chapter of the manga. Himmel was one of the best hero's.

It is so endearing seeing how the anime handles the feeling of loss. Everyone who has had someone very important to them pass away can confirm, that this emotion is far more complex than just "sadness", as it is often portrayed in media. At first, it's usually just an overpowering numbness, like the brain blocking out any semblance of emotion to be able to assess the situation logically as a coping mechanism. It takes a few hours, sometimes even days of processing before the floodgates break and all those emotions burst out, all of the regrets, all of the memories, everything at once.

When Himmel said we have a long life ahead of us I always figured he wanted to confess and live with her till he died.

That is why it is difficult to understand the desire of human beings to be immortal, it is normal to be afraid of death, but I think that eternal loneliness would be worse, where everyone disappears.

Oh god. Realizing that the imagery of Himmel watching the meteor shower is like Frieren's experience with her friends. They pass through blazing and beautiful but only last for a moment.
