The line "Nothing in the world belongs to me, but my love my all mine" just hits so hard. Like, Mitski's the goat for real 😭😭😭. Because humans have shorter lifespan, Himmel treasures the time they spent together and his love for Frieren so much. The victories became stories, his body turns to dust and his teammates go their separate ways, but the love he has for Frieren is the only thing he can keep when he died. Frieren's perspective is kinda the opposite yet approves the same idea. She lives longer, thus such time together doesn't matter much to her then. Yet later on, as she is travelling and enjoying the world, she keeps looking back at the time they spent together. Because that's all she has, the love is the only thing that stays, the memories of being loved (and loving too, but because of her lifespan, she can hardly recognize the importance of the feelings she has). It's sad cause she remembers a lot of important things. Even remembering Flamme gave Freiren some advice. Kills time and learns things for him too while ending up revolving back to Himmel most of the time, because she didn't know Humans valued life the most until he was gone.

Man, there's just something about this anime that tugs at some heartstrings like no other show. It never feels like there are blunt, overly depressing themes being shoved down your throat, nor does it tell a complex story with constant dramatic developments. It's the end of the day when the story draws to a close, and the heroes go home. With somber undertones and a lingering feeling of melancholy in the realization that the story has already been told, and the now lone hero is left to recount their past adventures alone.
