Funny how joysticks have evolved backwards

Stable drift like this should be fixable in software. Even the Gamecube did it - sticks are calibrated to zero on boot. Certainly seems like planned obsolescence to me.

This is super awesome but people really shouldn't have to resort to doing this all because companies like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft couldn't be bothered to take the issue of stick drifting seriously themselves.

Again, this is super awesome and I'll definitely look into getting these myself. I just think that more pressure should be placed on to these companies to actually fix their faulty products. The gaming community shouldn't be doing all the heavy lifting in regards to these issues imo.

just wanna make sure that everyone doing this for the first time, _be careful_ with the triggers and bumpers because they come off easily and will send those tiny little springs flying!

What a great mod, is nice to see mods that fix real life issues that cost consumers money. Having a few of these in the toolbox couldn't hurt as a back up. The fact that this is happening in most modern controllers, maybe manufacturers should look at including this in their controllers from day 1?

Considering the lawsuits I'm surprised that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo haven't dropped Alps and actually find a company that makes decent analog modules. We should be entitled to a free replacement as this is an ongoing issue. I like the idea of this PCB but tbh I feel we really shouldn't have to install parts just to allow the controllers to still work as intended. I mean $200 for a elite controller with the same crappy modules....its not good enough

A band-aid with Neosporin is still a band-aid, the only permanent fix is a hall effect swap and those are hard to come by. It's still cool though.

Apparently the issue is that Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo all use the same cheap analog sticks.

Now we just need one of these for a JoyCon

How did I not think of slapping 2 variable resistors on a flexi-PCB? This fix is actually really simple, and effective.

Time to buy this for all my controllers. Watch it sell out and prove how many people have issues with their controllers

So, by soldering in a board, you are only able to put on board resistors in parallel to the resistance of the original potentiometers(variable resistors). When resistors are placed in parallel, the total resistance is ALWAYS less than the least resistive resistor.

Your explaination was that the potentiometers lose their resistance over time. The only way to add back missing resistance would be to solder new resistors in SERIES with the potentiometers.

If you are going to solder, you might as well just replace the potentiometers; which are really low cost(cheaper than this mod).

Thank you for the fantastic, clear and high quality instructions, my man.
It's comforting to know that there is finally a permanent solution to the age-old drifting problem.
That said, (and I might sound like a cheapskate for saying this but) I did expect the mod to be a little bit cheaper. But to be fair, I really don't know how much building one costs. I'm only saying that since two entirely new analogue stick modules cost 5.5$.
Hopefully it will become cheaper with mass production as more people purchase them.

I bought a set of these and applied it to my fault xbox elite series 1 controller. Worked like a charm.

The hardest part was actually reassembling the controller for me. Although this was my first soldering job, it was pretty straight forward after watching a few videos on soldering.

I've had 2 brand new PS4 controllers with that problem right out of the box. Thanks for the vid.

Absolutely disgusting that these large manufacturers couldnt implement something like this and instead waste all these controllers.

Thanks for giving me a shout out! I'm super glad to see this idea take off! :)

Also if you don't have a security torx bit, the pins are easy to break off.

Great video as always. Nice that you're changing it up and doing a repair video, even though I love all your mod videos. Awesome solution for an annoyingly common problem.
