Out of all the bosses in the game so far, this is probably the one I had most trouble with. Killing all those little rats is insanely hard. Ruin Sentinels, Gargoyles, Lost Sinner, they didn't kill me anywhere near as often as those little rats did.

This boss is hard for all the wrong reasons. You have to get lucky enough to kill the rats in one fell swoop, or else it's already over. It's stupid.

Wtf the hitboxes and tracking on the main rat is insane, no matter where I go I'm being hit and he always jolts to my direction when he swipes his head

This is the absolute worst, cheapest and most pointless boss from any Dark Souls Game ever. You can absolutely tell the Devs added it in 10 minutes before the game launched and thought it was a great idea.

If someone needs to do this still in 2019... I just used an ultra-greatsword with the swipe hit, which kills all the adds in one hit. I died like 20 times before not being able to kill the adds before getting poisoned.

This is impossible. Those little rats come in so fast that they knock you in his hit range

Only saving grace is the bonfire being literally right in front of the fog gate.

1. Use a fully upgraded Bastard Sword
2. Wait for small rats to surround you, one-shot them all at once
3. Avoid lock-on, run straight through big rat's legs
4. Slash away, mostly out of active hitbox range
5. Rinse and repeat, block if you get caught in front of him

Bruh I came to this video thinking that every comment is gonna clown on how easy this boss is, didn't realize a lot of people had trouble with the small rats and the hitbox

Edit: I now understand the pain now that I am using a thrust weapon...

I just beat the Royal Rat Authority today for the first time, along with four other bosses in Dark Souls 2...I have some extra time on my hands these days.I cannot for the life of me understand why everyone compares this giant rat-dog to Sif. Sure, the Royal Rat is of comparable size to Sif and walks on all fours, granted. However, it does not wield a giant fucking sword and has a very different moveset from the Great Grey Wolf. Hell, even it's close to death moment is completely different. Sif begins to limp in a valiant effort to keep fighting all the way to it's death, whereas the Royal Rat begins to secrete acidic, vomitous bile from it's mouth as if it were a copious release of blood. Personally, I don't see the comparison and while Sif is without a doubt a better boss fight, I still enjoyed exterminating this overgrown rat hyena.

I mained the battle axe so having a high damage aoe swing made this fight pretty easy
Takes care of the small ones quickly and just dance in between the main dudes legs

As a rapier, this is potatoes when you have 100% shield

what i did was just to rush in to kill the minions with fire sword+3, 2hits each just in time for the big one to jump down and strike. estus up and DO NOT LOCK IN, run under him and strike away
