There is an actual achievement when you first die called " this is dark souls". When I got that achievement I knew I was now in hell.

Being the least difficult Dark Souls game is sort of like being the least lethal strain of anthrax. Technically correct, but doesn't quite get the point across.

For new comers. There's a dude under the stairs in the mansion area before the dragons. If you decide to progress his quest line, he asks you to kill the emerald IT. The item he wants from her can be gotten as soon as you exhaust the heralds dialog immediately after getting into the dragon area
