My mother was at 2.4 a few days ago. Now she's at 3.2. Bloodless medicine has come a long way
6/14/19 - now it’s 3.9
6/16 - 4.9
6/18 - 5.1

WOW! That was LOW! I love all the videos you do. I enjoy the Medical Minutes, Case studies and procedures. I really learn a lot of new things and learn how you and your ER staff choose to treat the different issues. I'm sure many only really enjoy the procedures but I enjoy all of it.

I got down to a 2.9 while waiting for blood. I was 15 and the Canadian Air Force did an emergency flight for me bringing the blood I needed from Montreal to Toronto area. It still took a few hours to get it and by that time my peripheral veins had shut down and I was loosing consciousness. My body was being wrapped in blankets heated in the microwave. My doctor finally found a vein to use for the transfusion but had to use an old style needle so my arm was braced so it couldn't move (and have the needle poke through the other side).
They figured I had been slowly going anemic for months and was functioning fine even below a 7. It was only after it dropped below 4 I had problems.
I then spent 2 years getting immonoglobulin infusions every 3 weeks as my IGG levels were non existent.

My hemoglobin level a month ago was 4.7 when I was admitted to the hospital. I got a blood transfusion and got like 3 units of blood before it raised up to 8.4 on the 3rd day I was there and they released me. I'm doing a lot better now! 😊

I was at my hematologists office and an older women was in there and she was sent to the ER, her hemoglobin was a 4. With my g6pd deficiency, they give me transfusions at 7.

The lowest one I saw was 2.4. She was a chronic Eton abuser and normally had an average 5.8-6.2. the last time she came to the ER she had a 2.4 hgb and severe ascites. She was admired and died 3 days later from liver failure. I remember how pasty she looked.

Medical laboratory scientist here! I've had a 3.2! It was on a 2 year old who ended up being diagnosed with leukemia after a bone marrow biopsy.

I am a liver transplant patient, PSC, and have had internal bleeding three times from esopogeal varcies. my first bleed brought me down to a 8.5, when I finally got to a 11, I had my second bleed that brought me down to 5.5. I didn't go in for over a week not realizing I had lost so much and had put on over 10lbs of water, that's probably near 7% of my normal weight.

After a placental abruption at full term I was at 3.7 with full kidney failure, almost died. 9 months later I had surgery unrelated to previous situation & was slowly bleeding internally. Thankfully I was admitted because I was at 4.1 & was opened up again the next day. My normal is around 15-16.

I have a rare disease (blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome) which causes internal bleeding in the gut and I loose a lot of hemoglobin over time. About 3 years ago I wasn't taking iron supplements nor was I monitoring levels for several months and I dropped to 4.3 and was admitted for 3 blood transfusions. Those few weeks I was at those levels I was pale, tired all of the time, dizzy getting up etc. I've been maintaining levels well since then but bleeding is getting worse and I'm at the moment getting an iron infusion every month with my levels staying between 6 and 10.

can anyone tell me, when they needed a transfusion, were you very crankie? Whenever this happens to me, I lash out at people, then I feel guilty afterward, when I am better and apologize profusely. I don't have a clue why I do that.

My dad has had a hemoglobin of 4 before. His new normal is around 8-9. He was given a blood thinner that was newer on the market and it was disastrous. We went back to Coumadin. Now he just has weird anemia and receives a monthly injection to help boost his hemoglobin

I had 5.8 related to Lupus. Just came from my doctors appt. as I walked in my house phone was ringing. It was my doctor. He told me to go lay down with my feet elevated, call my husband and have him take me to ER for admission for transfusion. I got 2 units that day and after being sent home went to Oncologist/Hematologist for Iron Infusion. I go through this once a year.
