Solve algebra fractions, with completing the square, to find the value of x

This video is all about how to solve algebra fractions, by completing the square, and forms part of the playlist on working with algebra fractions. I've also added to the playlists on GCSE higher revision and completing the square.

The question looks fairly straightforward but you need to be able to solve for x, rather than just simplify:

(1)/(x + 2) + (2)/(x - 3) = 1

The question is aimed at around level 8 GCSE maths as it could become quite complete - particularly if you use the quadratic formula.

I hope the video helps and please do leave a comment - thanks!

do you have to use complete the square to find x? I just moved the denominators to the other side and worked from there

Would you have lost marks in an exam if you cross multiplied at the beginning because it doesn't show how you got to the answer
