Takes me back to a ‘lightbulb’ logical phrase my maths teacher said for the first time to us way back in the mists of times past, (she said it so many times afterwards to ingrain it into us), “as long as you do exactly the same thing to both sides of the equation, it will remain equal”. Blimey! Was that really 46 years ago? Guess I’m not a ‘young whipper-snapper’ any more...geez...

Multiply by 2 gives 10x square - 17 x +3 =0. 10x 3 = 30 = 15 x 2 and their sum is 17. Hence factors are 1/5(5 x - 15)(5 x -2)= 0. Hence (x -3)(5x -2)=0 . So x= 3 and also x = 2/5. PSD.
