Sony ZV-1F Review

Sony has just released the ZV-1F, their most affordable camera yet for vloggers and content creators. Chris and Jordan took this adorable little camera to the mean streets of Calgary to find out if it's worth the admittedly reasonable price!

I bought this camera recently as a secondary daily camera to my A7IV. Today I took some pictures around my garden and was pleasantly surprised. Easy, quick to use.

Look at the footage from 7:53 onwards to see how the metal tubes..."thing" in the background pulsates form the AF going in and out. We were all hoping Panasonic will catch up with Sony and Canon video AF, but for some mysterious reason, Sony started doing Pana AF... 😯

I think you should have talked about and showed more examples of the stabilisation, it’s pretty awful in other videos I’ve seen. The loss of the optical part of the Z-V1 has had a hugely detrimental impact on the EIS.

Is it suited for me as an artist? I mostly film my hands. Can I see the screen as I film on a secondary screen like a phone or tablet? Can I film close enough for close up detail shots? And most important, can I lock the focus and lighting on my paper so it doesn’t focus on my hand or pencil and flicker the lighting as I move my hands in and out the screen?

Interesting concept, but I'm not understanding some of their design and the sensor choices (rolling shutter and contrast AF only).

Love the fixed lens aspect of it, I use rx100 and I have anxiety on the lens mechanism lifespan every time I turn it on and off.

Classic Sony. Nobody asked for this. We asked for an UPGRADED ZV-1 with wider lens.

For a vlogging camera shouldn't it have a flip up screen rather than a flip out to the side? Furthermore for half the price you can get a Sony handycam CX--405 which has excellent active stabilization. Product Reviews TV here on YouTube has some great videos on it.

Does it? Gerald Undone showed that it seems to lose in a lot of situations compared to the *front facing* cameras of smartphones, without even investigating the back facing primary cameras. Maybe y'all should do a deep dive into that and demonstrate how "certainly" this camera beats smartphones, and throw in the rear cameras for comparison too.

3. Doesn't shoot Raw. Jpeg only.
4. Lots of rolling shutter.

Please stay away from this. VERY far away.

No raw for photos? automatically ruled out for me, this would be a perfect pocket cam for street/landscape cam when i don’t feel like carrying anything larger

Hate it already, I have been waiting for this camera, hoping it would be an upgrade to my ZV1.
