There used to be R9, R7, R5 cards, so the X might stand for 10 as a successor to those old cards, and AMD just stuck with it to make the naming scheme less complicated.

I got my 7900XTX some time ago because the 3090 was out of stock everywhere and honestly, I have no real regrets. 4k/60+ is no big deal for that card.

Last 5 years i have runned Radeon GPUs and been super pleased. Had a 5500xt upgraded to a 6700xt and recently bought a 7900xt (read about people having cooling problems with their xtxs if you don’t have to good of a airflow in your pc

Before the RX Series there were R5, R7 and R9 series of cards(similar to today’s Ryzen categories). The X in RX technically stands for the larger generation of card, but it has been used since the Polaris days. e.g. RX 480

This was actually very helpful, because the last AMD card I bought was a Radeon HD 7990 to play Battlefield! They used TWO of those to run their presentation demo! It had so many issues being dual gpu, but damn it was cool!

Radeon is in APUs now. That's why there's X to state it's a dgpu, XT and XTX makes it faster and flagship.
