You guys need to remember that Janos Slynt was the guy who carried out the killings of Robert’s bastards in season 2, and even killed some of them himself without remorse. Him getting executed by a bastard is the ultimate irony/karma

How can you forget that Theon betrayed Robb and attacked Winterfell. Why, exactly would she be happy to see him?

Pretty sure you missed the punchline to Jon saying "I heard it's best to keep your enemies close." Stannis says "Whoever said that, didn't have many enemies." It's a great line.

I feel as though the comparison to Dany is valid because as you both said “Jon needed to do this to command/earn the respect of his men” however, Dany also needed to do this to earn the respect of the nobles in Mereen and prove to them that she is a fair ruler because at the end of the day, the former slave she executed broke the law, he murdered someone who was awaiting trial and said it was in the name of the queen. If she didn’t execute him it would’ve shown favoritism towards the former slaves. The only difference in their respective situations is that the audience was led to dislike the man Jon executed and the audience was led to like the man Dany executed but both men undermined their Queen/Lord Commander’s authority and both men had to be made examples of.

When talking about Dany I think its important to see the similarities between her and Rob. Both began as young leaders who seemed to win a lot using their fair and positive ideologies. Then both were betrayed by close members of their council (the slave & the Karstarks ) and had to display a level of ruthlessness to show that their kindness wasn't a tool to be used against them. I think both had to happen in order to really establish themselves as leaders and not pushovers that others saw them as due to their lack of experience and youth.

I believe that Drogon returned bc he sensed Dany was in danger and it was showing their magical connection

Those were not the Westrosi house sigils you saw in the House of B&W. Those were the symbols of the (story’s) planet’s religions. The flaming heart is the symbol for the Lord of Light, which Stannis’s current sigil is based on. The lion head you saw was not a Lannister one, but the Lion of Night, an antagonistic entity in an Essosi religion that’s irrelevant to the current story. Food for thought.

Danny was neither judge nor jury since the culprit confessed to the unlawful killing of a detainy = murder. And she cannot start her rule by showing prefential treatment based on personal feelings. Jon didn't want Manse spared over personal feelings either, he was an important means to an end that was more useful to the world alive than dead

Jon and Dany's situation wasn't the same, even if Slynt and Mossador were guilty of a similar crime (even though Mossador's was worse because he insubordinated Dany by killing someone rather than only refusing to obey her). What Jon did was relatively easy, he only strengthened his position and took out someone he disliked and who wasn't of use to him. Dany had a far more difficult decision to make: do I show favoritism to someone I care about, who advises me, and who is a former slave thus possibly upsetting my fanbase, for lack of a better term? Or should I be a just ruler and show the law applies to everyone, no matter their background, their current standing, or my personal feelings towards them? Dany made the right choice, and she deserves far more respect for it than Jon does for his decision.

I like the little nod Stannis gave to Jon after the beheading of Janos Slynt.
This episode always felt like the start of a new round in the game to me. Jon taking command of the Night's Watch, Arya starting her training, Sansa going to marry Ramsay, Cersei losing power and looking for a new ally and Tyrion getting captured by Jorah is like dealing the cards anew. A great setup for things to come.

I’m sorry but there definitely IS a double standard happening here. Dany had to execute someone who disobeyed her and Jon had to execute someone who disobeyed him, yet only Dany is being judged as being tyrant-like while Jon is making the right decisions? I mean immediately as y’all saw Jon did it, you started making justifications and excuses to make Jon’s actions more palatable. If Jon had to do it, then why couldn’t Dany had to do it too? Not to mention Ned did executions and so did Stannis and Robb. Yet Dany is being criticized the most and told that she is young and learning, when literally she and Jon and Robb are the same age. I’m not even that much of a Dany fan and I can see the clear hypocrisy. Is Dany perfect? Hell no. I question a lot of her decisions but you can’t say Jon did the right thing and then criticize Dany for doing the same. They were both in situations where their leadership was being challenged, and they both had to ensure that leadership would be held strong.

Also, Sansa didn’t just learn to play the game, she’s been playing the game since end of season 1.

So... Jon did exactly the same thing Dany did one episode ago. With a difference. Dany beheaded someone for not obeying her and murdering someone who was waiting for a trial.

Jon beheaded Janos for not obeying him because he was scared :)

(Don't get me wrong, Janos was disgusting and deserved to die way before this, but Dany and Jon did the same in similar situations. The only thing that makes it look like a better decision is because we all hate Janos. But a ruler shouldn't spare someone just because he's on his/her side. Both of them did the right thing)

Spartan....the so called kid that Dany killed thought he was judge, jury, and executor. He's a pawn who went over her head and did something he wasn't supposed to do. Dany was going to give that master a fair trail till he got killed by the kid. Now how is she supposed to let people live who would deliberately disobey her orders? How was the kid in the right? You can't underline noone in authority and then go walk and live, it makes you look weak. And meeren isn't in chaos.. they throwing rocks at the masters not Dany. Great reaction BTW

It’s the same if anything Jon’s is more brutal the only difference Jon killed someone we don’t like. You don’t have to like Dany but don’t act like the situations aren’t very similar

The writers did a good job with the Dany/ Jon execution scenes by putting them one after the other. They’re both in similar situations, but it’s always interesting to see ppl’s reactions to them. Ik everyone has biases and likes some characters more than others, I just wish they didn’t dismiss ppl accurately calling out the bias against Danny

''only way to do that to command respect"

so it's different when Jon does it huh
