In the latest DayZ update, DayZ 1.21, the sword and mace have been reintroduced as melee weapons and they set a new benchmark for being the best melee weapons in the game. These two weapons are the best 1-handed and 2-handed melee weapons in the game, with the mace being better than most 2-handers available. In this video, we'll compare the sword and mace to the previous best melee weapons and demonstrate their stat differences.

How to open a pumpkin with mace:

3) in one swift motion stab the pumpkin from above
The fins on the mace cut the pumpkin into 6 perfect slices.

I get that it could be quite broken, and the melee system isn't really designed that way, but I am surprised the swing speed of the sword isn't a lot faster. You swing it around like the weight is 5x more than it really is.

you can make a knife with only 1 stone, craft it with stone in your hand while looking at the boulder you mined it from.

I'm positively surprised they made the character hold the sword in an actual guard used for that type of sword.

Thing I've noticed about the addition of the medieval gear is the number of bases now built on castles, reducing the chances of getting any of the stuff. All depends on the server, of course, but unlike military gear (you can't really lock down the airfield, for example) castles are, well... castles, so it's easy to build a defensible structure locking out all medieval gear to other players.

I've been rocking the chainmail hood with a dark balaclava, which covers up the top half of the semi-bright metal so it doesn't really stick out. Good combination.
