Today we look at two mid range processors that are on the market competing with each other and we will try to answer the question which one should you buy. Both Processors today are 6 core and 12 threads, first up is the 10600k coming in at £209 and the opponent is the Ryzen 3600 coming in at £180.

For our tests we will be using the same graphics card the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2070 8GB OC version with 16GB RAM to make the tests fair. The resolution is 1080p with all tests run using the high preset. In our first game Call of Duty Warzone we see the 10600k beats the Ryzen 3600 by 20 frames per second on average framerates. The 10600k looks to already be pulling away from the Ryzen 3600 but we will see if this continues for the rest of the games.

In our second test Shadow of the tomb raider we see that then 10600k again beats the Ryzen chip here by 12 frames per second which again is surprising, Shadow of the tomb raider is a more graphically demanding game so we expect to see little difference here.

The third game test today Fortnite saw a big gap yet again at 16 frames per second difference, as this game is CPU intensive we would expect the more expensive Ryzen to come out on top by the Intel chip is very efficient and is looking great value. The downside is of course the expensive motherboards for the intel chips whereas you can get a cheap AM4 motherboard using the A520 or B450 chipset and that board would still perform great. We are using an expensive Z490 motherboard here so you would need to spend the extra money on a better intel board as the B460 chipset is just not good enough.

The fourth game tested today Division 2 saw a small 5 frames per second difference, so again are it’s a more graphically demanding game the Ryzen closes the gap down.

The Fifth game today Red Dead Redemption 2 saw only a 5 FPS difference so again here the more graphically demanding game the Ryzen closes the gap down again.

The sixth game tested F1 2019 saw a massive 25 frames per second the biggest difference in all our tests, at this point we can see that the 10600k if paired with a good Z490 board is certainly looking the better option as you would also get support for the next generation of Intel chips using a z490 motherboard so the extra money could be a good long term investment.

The last game Borderlands 3 sees us a small 5 frames per second lead to the 10600k again. Overall I would say the 10600k is the processor to get providing you can get a good deal on a z490 motherboard. If you can find the Ryzen for nearer to £150 then I would say get the Ryzen chip but at £180 it is hard to recommend when the Intel chip is only £30 extra for extra performance.

good side by side comparison, I did not realise how cheap the 10600k has become, I have the 3600 but , it will be two years old in July, if i had to buy now it would be the 10600k.
