Classic Southern Meatloaf Recipe: Hearty and Flavorful Onion Gravy Edition
Ingredients
For the Meatloaf

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (96%) or 85/15)
20 crackers, crushed
1 finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1 large egg
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/3 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
(((Double the recipe if feeding more than 2 people)))

For the Onion Gravy:
1 jar Heinz Homestyle Mushroom Gravy
2 packages Onion Gravy mix
1/2 tablespoon Black pepper
1/2 tablespoon all-purpose seasoning
1/2 cup or more Beef broth
1 small Onion, sliced

Direction:
1. Add olive oil, onions, bell peppers in a cast iron skillet over medium high heat until the veggies are softened and removed and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, add your meatloaf ingredients and mix everything together. Add your green peppers and onions to the mixture and try not to overmix your mixture.
3. Pack the meat mixture into the loaf pan or shape it and place it on the baking pan or cast iron skillet.
4.Bake the meatloaf for 1 hour @ 350゚or use a meat thermometer and test your internal temperature to 170° to 180° internally.. Carefully pour excess grease into a can or jar (dispose of it in the trash after it cools)
5. Add your gravy mixture listed above into a saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, add more beef broth if needed for thickness of the gravy.
6. Remove your meatloaf from the oven once done... Cut into thick slices and serve with mashed potatoes and spread gravy right on top of meat. ENJOY!!!

Looks great! I use oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs and that makes the meatloaf so moist .My children love my ketchup/ brown sugar / dry mustard mixture and it’s ok if you don’t have dry mustard it still is a hit in my home . I put it on top of the meatloaf and it just makes it better if you don’t mind a bit more sweetness, and believe it or not this is my children’s and friends favorite food when they come over instead of pizza.♥️

Man when I saw that meatloaf come up out of that skillet and kiss that mash potatoes and to get there with me plate . .no didn't make it...yall ate it all way before I got there.

You called it Worcestershire sauce but I've never seen any W sauce that looks like that? That was brown and very thick with what looked like some seasoning in it.

I would never use oat meal in my meatloaf, why ruin a good meatloaf with that, to each his own
