The PleinAirpril challenge is to paint outside every day during April, to build a healthy practice routine, to learn, to explore where you live, etc. It's my favorite art challenge of the year.

I have sooo been missing pastoral landscape painting, Sarah. This is full of nostaligia and awe for me, Sarah.

Nostalgia because I have sooo been missing pastoral landscape painting, with its flowing lines and colours, big skies and its sense of freedom.

Awe because of the beautiful painting you unfolded here. Today, I struggled even to get a decent pencil sketch down while trying to draw what was in front of me (a little building against the cliff face) because I am horribly out of practice.

I'm going to keep on with it, though, because despite the struggles, it was really great to be out, with a good challenge, my sketchbook and art kit (and of course, my picnic lunch!).


Thank you for this lovely (challenging) reminder of the colours (beautiful muted tones in your painting) and the skill - as well as the need for consistent practice - that I used to have at my pencil / brush tip. :)

I really appreciate your videos, just ordered a few more colors, used primerys and white/black for a while, but miss a fast way to a dark brown, sand and muted green. Can't wait. Just need to kick myself out the door and "go" just really miss a good palette that can be "thrown in my bag" love yours but hard to get without paying crazy import fees.

I like your use of toned paper. It really unifies the whole work. Was that just a happy accident or do you only carry a toned sketchbook with you? In any case- beautiful!
