Squint ✶ #PleinAirpril Day 17

Показать описание
The easiest way I know how to start a scene is to squint my eyes. Doing so minimizes everything down to darks and lights. It allows you to see past the distraction of color to understand the values in the scene. #PleinAirpril #gouache

The PleinAirpril challenge is to paint outside every day during April, to build a healthy practice routine, to learn, to explore where you live, etc. It's my favorite art challenge of the year.

This looks beautiful. I really liked the texture in the tree barks and the shadows at the bottom of the trees. Thanks, Sarah!

Really looking forward to the journal, page by page reveal. Wonderful variety of places. Great ‘squinting’ reminder! Means transition glasses off 4 me.

Lovely as always! I bought a set of your brushes yesterday. I was very happy to see them available again!

That's beautiful, Sarah. Btw, are you using *dried* Gouache on that Portable Painter's Palette you have? If so, how was it? Does it "water down" pigment or colors on the Gouache? I'm still new on Gouache, I use it either direct from tube or from "wet palette".

But I have the same palette above, but I put regular watercolor.

Is this by chance the same location as one of your reference images in the forest sketching live stream from a couple of years back? I sketched that just this morning and it's totally eerie seeing it on video and in a painting! This would have been the second reference photo in the video.

What is that bag you use?! I didn't realize it completely folded out like that, that's awesome!

May I ask if you used pastel oil paper for this video...or Is a specific guache Brown paper?
