Mossy tree ✶ #PleinAirpril Day 07

Painting in the forest on a warm spring day...doesn't get any better! Today I chose a really complicated scene, but tried to simplify as much as possible. I went overboard with saturation but I still learned a lot about shadows. I will tackle this scene again in the future! #gouache #PleinAirpril

The PleinAirpril challenge is to paint outside every day during April, to build a healthy practice routine, to learn, to explore where you live, etc. It's my favorite art challenge of the year.

Those old fallen trees are, ironically, a treasure trove of life. In April in Tassie, they have not only those fluoro green lichens and mosses, but also colourful mushrooms of all shapes and sizes.

I’m really loving this series of video shorts. I love seeing you work in the field and hearing your thought process and the commentary you’ve been sharing about the plain air process. Thank you for taking us along. 😊

Sweet! Interesting & beautiful light blue in your palette. For mixing? Do tell why is a go to? Those leafy plants on the fallen log!

I love plein air painting. Would love to know about how you get so many angles and your video set up? Are you hauling multiple cameras or do you pause and move cameras? Love your videos on YouTube and have been enjoying your journey. I think you are as bad as I am when it comes to palette play.

Hi Sarah. Jim from Madrid, Spain (again).
In this short video I see you still using the Etch mini slate art bag (I saw your previous videos on it) and I wanted to ask you if you could share your thoughts on it after having used it for a while now. Is to comfortable to carry? Is it too heavy? Is it easy to use as a hard surface for plain air and urban sketching without a tripod (hanging from your shoulder)?
Due to an accident and several past surgeries, I have chronic back pain issues and some mobility issues but I LOVE painting and sketching outdoors in real life. So I was thinking of maybe buying this bag, but it needs to be "comfortable" to use and carry and since it ain't cheap I was hoping if you could provide some hands on experience and thoughts.
Additionally... You chose a great tree trunk/branch with all the moss on it (I love moss, it's greenish colours and earthy tones, and how it changes the look of stone, wood, etc.. Just beautiful!
Well... thank you again for everything you do and for everything you share and I hope you have a great PleinAir-pril challenge. Cheers from Madrid! 😁👍
