With so many people leaving other parts of Canada and moving to Nova Scotia, I thought it would be helpful for anyone thinking about moving here to know there are things to consider before relocating.

Thanks for putting people off moving here, hopefully it will lower our cost of living...

I recently moved back to Nova Scotia from the States and I agree 💯 with everything you mentioned. But I LOVE this Province, it's the most beautiful place on the East Coast. 🥰

Very good information here but I also believe the bug and winter cons really depends where you live in the province. We live in the south and bugs aren't all much difference then living in Ontario and the winters were much better. We only had about 3 weeks of actual snow on the grown this year and it was similar last year. Freezing rain on the other hand is much worse here then in Ontario. Keep up the good work.

There are 2 Costco`s in NS, one in Halifax and the other in Dartmouth . We also have a season called Sprinter, it`s winter and spring combined together lol. It`s not perfect here but I love Nova Scotia, home is where the heart is .

I'm curious that ticks were not on your list of cons. Are they not a problem where you live in Nova Scotia? My son and family live on the south shore of Nova Scotia and have had up to 30 ticks a day on them. It's a real problem.

I lived in TO for 15 years and definitely prefer winters in NS. Next to BC this is the mildest province and the snow generally melts a day or two after a storm. The air smells amazing during a melt and it often doesn’t snow until Xmas. As for summers I disliked many days in TO— too hot and humid, whereas outdoors is enjoyable in NS from June-Dec. Jan-May can be tough. Black flies last a few weeks, although I don’t have many where I live, not that I’ve ever been bothered by them. We were taught as kids not to swat at them because they detect panic making you a target. Buddy should take that into consideration. And don’t wear black. They like that too. Costco doesn’t exist in rural communities although you can order online if you need to be buying things. NS has more doctors and specialists per person than any other province. 10% don’t have GPs. In AB and ON it’s 12%, BC it’s 15%, and it’s 25% in QC. Getting a doctor in rural communities anywhere in Canada is a challenge. Taxes in NS are high, the cost of living in a have not province.

Blackflies in NB are from about mid May to the end of June. Is it different in NS?
Also curious what part of the province you are in; maybe mentioned elsewhere but have just discovered your videos.
Hope you get your power back soon.

Not this winter. It's mid-January and I haven't had to shovel/snow-blow once (in the valley).

NS is hardly England but it has the mildest weather in the country (sharing a plant zone with SW Ontario). Yet, the ocean is dangerous, storms can be wild, and winter is messy. That’s Nova Scotia. As for the bugs, they are what make us Canadians! Lol
Taxes? Yes, Very High, the reality of being a have not province. And the weather? Nova Scotia has more of it, for sure, but the heat and humidity of an Ontario summer isn’t always pleasant.

Thank you so much, I think these 5 reasons are still ok with my mind set and are definitely no dealbreakers like you said ....this being said, do you know about the Job market and especially in Logistics and Ocean transportation please ?

The things you list are 5 Reasons Not to Move to "Rural" Nova Scotia. Living rurally vs city are two different experiences. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia and when living right in the city, black flies and mosquitoes aren't a problem. As far as shopping, I have easy access to products. And doctors are readily available at walk-in clinics in most neighborhoods even when you don't have a family doctor. I agree that spring arrives a month later in NS than in Ontario but Halifax winters are milder than most places in Ontario and Canada for that matter. (I get regular weather reports from family in Toronto, Ottawa and chilly Sudbury). We get a lot of rain in winter in Halifax while other parts of the province are getting snow. You're absolutely right that the taxes you pay in Nova Scotia are outrageous. I certainly agree with that one! :) Hope you really enjoy your time in NS! Take care.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the high cost of electricity, which is the main source of power for home heating, making a winter stay here very i guess this is one of the reasons there are so many summer homes which are empty most of the year.
I also. found out that the property tax, HST and provincial taxes are higher here than in most and you get no services for the huge tax bills.

my family just basically planned the same move, from same the area, settling in the place you filmed while announcing your motion graphics company on that gloomy day. I'll definitely be in touch for an intro sequence when I get settled and set up - and hopefully be in touch as I plan to be of service or get involved in film if I can as I have been working some content here in Ontario now slowly on my own.

I live in Liverpool, small town in the South shore so the only thing I agree are the taxes and the medical care. No mosquitoes and black flies, winter is very mild perhaps 5 days of snow for the whole year. By the way you mentioned 4 reasons not 5.

We actually have and had 2 Costco's in Halifax / Dartmouth.

I live in Bridgetown…..might see the odd black fly in spring. Ticks are a very bad problem all over rural Nova Scotia. Weather is extremely changeable. I have a hard time with the high winds and constant dampness. Would prefer a drier climate for my health condition.

there are 2 Costco's, the stupid part is that they are within 15 km of each other
