The Yamato and Bismarck were 2 very powerful ships that could have faced any battleship thrown at them during their time, but they also showed that the greatest weakness of battleships were attacks from multiple planes. Remember how so many battleships were destroyed during Pearl Harbor? These events just showed the vulnerability of battleships to planes, which later gave way to the aircraft carrier as the central capital ship and relegated the battleship to a supporting role to aircraft carriers.
