The MV Wilhelm Gustloff was a German ocean liner that was built in 1937 for the Nazi Party's Strength Through Joy (Kraft durch Freude) program. It was the largest passenger ship afloat at the time of its completion. In January 1945, the ship was packed with refugees fleeing from the advancing Red Army. On January 30, it was torpedoed by a Soviet submarine and sank in the Baltic Sea, killing an estimated 9,400 people, making it one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history.

Horrible fact about this tragedy: “captain” of the soviet submarine, Marinesco, a.k.a. Marinescu, knew very well this ship is overloaded with civilian refugees, mostly women and children, and it still pull the trigger.
