Shackleton was a beast. One of the most legendary survival stories on record. They survived over a year on the ice before the endurance sank, then finally made their way to elephant island on life boats where they spent another year eating penguin. Then Shackleton and five other crew took an amazingly brave trip 700nm, practically using dead reckoning, to South Georgia Island. They landed on the wrong side of the island from the whaling station at Stromness. They had to hike across glaciers scaling crevices and ravines and jagged cliffs. When they arrived at Stromness, Shackleton then was able to eventually go back to elephant island on a ship to save the rest of the crew. Not a single life lost.

It's amazing how Earnest Shackleton got all of his crew back home without any deaths. He is truly one of the forgotten heroes of history.

"Endurance."
Nice name for a giant boat that endured everything underwater after it sank.

I like how the sea anemone is just "chilling" on the deck

The book is amazing, and shows the actual endurance of the sailors, but also the sacrifices and sufferings they endured to survive. Highly recommend

In addition, Shackleton got his entire crew home safe and sound. Nobody died.

Love the little anemone sitting at the prow like an excited explorer

At that depth (around 10, 000 ft), and in the Arctic/Antarctic Ocean, wood-eating bacteria can’t survive in the cold water, so the ship is in a remarkable state of preservation.

Named "Endurance" took the meaning into a whole new level

The whole crew of around 27 people survived almost 2 years in the Antarctic. They all made it back crazily.

If anyones interested there’s a book by the same name “Endurance” about the absolute insane journey of the captain and the crew to survive after their ship sunk.

Endurance is also fitting as how the crew almost died but ended up everyone surviving in the Antarctic weather
