The best-charting singles each year in Germany from 1954 to 2018.

The German artists have been marked with an German flag. The regular German flag just looked like two rectangles so I used a variant.

Stats are from music charts (German Media Control), not opinion. The choices were based on the single which held the #1 position for the most weeks in a year [1954-1991] or the highest selling singles [1992-2018]. If there were winners with the same amount of weeks, the first song chronologically was chosen.

My mother does not remember which song was the most played in Germany in October 67, but back then, in hospital she had a pocket radio my dad gave her, she was holding me in her arms for the very first time, she did turn the radio and it was playing "The Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and it was the first time EVER she saw me smiling. Since she lemme know that, I just LOVE this song!

I like the geographical variety of all the singers - we have Germany, USA un UK (ofc), but also Jamaica, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Brazil, France, Spain, Italy, even Lithuania and Moldova

I'm not so sure about the credible criterias that this list is combined.Rather weirdly mega acts and huge worldwide hits that were also hugely popular in Germany fromThe Beatles, Elvis, Nana Mouskouri, Bee Gees, Abba even '80s Nena and many others are alarmingly missing.
