I don't understand why you didn't just blend the toasted whole dried chilies given that toasting those dried spices makes it easier to blend them into flakes...every other chili oil recipe does that...

In China, unfortunately they have the same word for dry old mom and chili oil Lao Gan Ma translates to dry old mom, but Lao Gan Ma also means chili oil in Chinese

Hi Tiffy! I made this today but it turned out black 😢 the oil is a nice and vibrant red but the garlic and spices got dark. Maybe I toasted them for too long? I am so sorry I made this wrong 😢
