Master scales on one string, and you'll understand guitar faster than ever. It's like seeing piano keys on your fretboard!

Why it works:
• Visualizes scales clearly
• Simplifies music theory
• Helps you grasp full fretboard positions later Try this simple technique:

1. Choose any string
2. Pick a starting note
3. For major pentatonic: skip 1, skip 1, skip 2, skip 1, skip 2
4. You've just played a scale!

Give it a shot and let me know if you need help!

Man, that's perfect. This is the greatest secret hidden from the lead guitarist. It works perfectly. It makes your solo smooth

I had a teacher describe the guitar as "6 pianos" and it totally changed the way I look at the instrument.

This is why good teachers teach intervals before scales

John Mayer’s “Waiting on the world to change” solo is a good one to practice this concept on while also having fun.

im someone who played everyday growing up for about 10 years until a few broken fingers and a surgery on my hand.. Now i'm wanting to get back into it after like 10 years and literally all i can remember is some blues and pentatonic scales and this gave me a whole new inspiration, i hope someday to be able to play by feeling and improvisation instead of just learning to play from tabs again or something. Or just look at the guitar and see notes like you said, so i can learn to actually make my own music. Cheers

40 years of playing and learning guitar, i've come to realise it all comes back to the first thing I ever learned - its all whole steps, half steps and chromatics. Everything else is your choice of note{s} and how long {or short} you linger on them.

I am a drummer. Very interested in guitar and this was nothing short of brilliant. Especially for a visual learner.

Best way for me was to learn the major scale, learn which interval is major or minor, then associate a major or minor pentatonic scale, with each major or minor chord.

precisely! Learning one string scales and melodies is the best way to become a much better player!

Good tip, especially the reference to layout of the piano.
Visualizing the black key pattern on the piano (Eb minor pentatonic) overlaying the fretboard on a single string helped me.

I literally decided to teach myself guitar last year with no teacher or videos and this was the first method I came up with and made myself master. Crazy to see it's a thing 😎

I realized this years ago and it's on point. Being a pianist from an early age and picking guitar up a few years later at 11 I saw that the notes were the same on the guitar in how they were laid out... It truly have me a "gift" in learning the guitar.
Press on fellas as this is legit!!!

this is a great way to learn how to move around the fretboard. ive always found myself stuck in mostly one position when trying to improvise and this helped me start moving around instantly

Since i took piano lessons before learning guitar this concept/idea was obvious to me. Nice to know that this was a good approach.
